Central Government Service Transformation Programme

Mayfleet is working with a central government team whose job is to fix public services at the root: long phone queues, repeated form filling, and systems that don't join up. Rather than making small improvements, the team takes a NewCo approach. It builds a dedicated squad around each service so change can happen quickly where traditional structures have struggled. Four services will be transformed over the next two years.

You'll start on a complex, high-volume citizen service, working in a joint team with the organisation that runs it and colleagues from across government. Because the team spans organisations, building relationships and bringing people with you matters as much as the product thinking.

What you'll be doing:

• Setting product vision, strategy and roadmap, and taking products from discovery through launch to live and scale
• Turning user research, operational data and frontline insight into clear priorities
• Leading a multidisciplinary team and keeping momentum going. There is no Full time delivery manager at the moment, so you'll need to be very comfortable with delivery and agile ways of working, and to support a project support officer who is building his delivery skills
• Working across policy, operations, controls and governance, and challenging and probing where needed
• Taking a whole-service view, balancing user, operational, technical and policy needs rather than optimising a single product
• Coaching others and raising product maturity across the programme

What the client is looking for:

• A track record of taking products from early stage through to maturity in complex environments with many stakeholders
• Strong stakeholder management and the ability to influence at senior level
• Clear examples of research and data driving prioritisation decisions
• Experience leading multidisciplinary agile teams

Government experience is welcome but not essential. The client is just as interested in people from regulated industries, fintech, energy, big tech or start-ups. Microsoft Dynamics experience, or having helped set up a new organisation or service from scratch, would be a bonus.

The team is warm, collaborative and fast-paced. They want someone who will contribute to the team culture as well as the work, and who understands how frustrating it is for people when public services let them down.
