CV & LinkedIn Profile

Before you can apply for roles on Haystack, you’ll need to upload a CV. If you’d like us to check your CV before you start applying, drop us a message and we’ll gladly check it over. It’s also a good idea to link your LinkedIn profile, as this backs up your CV and makes it easy to look at your employment history. The more detail you can provide here the better, so make sure your CV and LinkedIn profile look professional and are fully representative of your skills.

GitHub Portfolio & Website
Take this opportunity to show off your technical ability and skill set, particularly if you’re still early on in your tech career. Whilst companies will be interested in your tech stack and employment history, it’s ultimately your technical ability that will seal the deal, and your GitHub profile or portfolio website is the best way to show this off. We highly recommend adding some form of portfolio to your profile as this can really help you stand out against other candidates.

Haystack Highlights

Think of this as a way to get your achievements and significant projects front and centre of any employers or hiring managers that might be checking your profile out. You can enter a maximum of four, and we recommend making the most of these. If you think about it from the perspective of a hiring manager, they could potentially have a lot of applications to work through. You can use Haystack Highlights to make yourself stand out from the crowd and ensure that even in a crowded market, you’re getting the right info across.

Bio

Finally, you can also enter a bio to give hiring managers a better idea of your skills and personality. This is also a good place to highlight things like interests outside of work and your soft skills, and give a better impression of what you’re like as a person. It’s not just about your technical skills - it’s also about coming across as someone who would work well as part of a team and can make a positive impact on a company’s culture.

If you want to give yourself the best chance of landing a role, we’d highly recommend filling in all the above sections. Whilst this gives you the best chance to get both your skills and personality across, it also shows your dedication to the job search and will be much more impressive to a hiring manager, compared to a profile where only the necessities have been filled in. If you’d like any help or advice about filling these in just drop us a message and we’ll be happy to help!
