Senior Python Developer - Energy Trading London, Hybrid Inside IR35

Product Developer | Energy Trading | London | Contract

We're recruiting for an experienced Technology Product Developer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering a cutting-edge post-trade platform within a leading energy trading business.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on a modern AWS-based platform that provides Real Time position and P&L reporting while digitising key trading processes across Front Office operations. You'll be joining a collaborative, agile development team building scalable cloud-native solutions that directly support trading activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain modern Back End and Front End applications

• Deliver scalable, secure and reliable software solutions

• Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to solve complex business challenges

• Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines and support continuous delivery practices

• Work closely with cloud, infrastructure and security teams to ensure best-practice solutions

Essential Skills & Experience

• 7+ years' commercial Python development experience

• Current hands-on Python development within your latest role

• Experience building and consuming REST APIs and/or GraphQL services

• Strong object-oriented programming skills

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL desirable)

• Experience working in Agile development environments

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve complex business problems

• Commodities, energy trading, financial markets, or other Front Office trading environments

• AWS Cloud services

Highly Desirable

AWS experience, particularly:

• S3

• ECS

• AppSync

• React development experience

• Kafka or other messaging technologies

• Commodities, energy trading, financial markets, or other Front Office trading environments

Contract Details

• London-based hybrid working (typically 3 days per week in the office)
