Job Description

Automation Engineer - Process & Automation Centre of Excellence

Location: UK (Hybrid - minimum 1 day/week on-site)
Compensation: £44,500 – £54,600 + Benefits
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time - 37 hours per week
Visa Sponsorship: Not available. Must have right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
Reports to: Automation Architect / Head of Automation & AI

Who They Are

A major UK utilities organisation is building a brand new Process & Automation Centre of Excellence from scratch.

3-year funded programme. Board-level sponsorship. 300+ automation opportunities already identified. Led by an experienced Head of Automation & AI who has built similar capabilities at major UK brands.

They need Automation Engineers with pure Power Automate and Copilot expertise - not Alteryx, D365, or QA.

What You'll Own

Solution Design, Build & Testing
Develop automations, workflows, scripts, integrations using Power Automate (Cloud & Desktop) and Copilot agents. Translate mapped processes into reliable automations. Build scalable solutions aligned with CoE standards. Conduct unit, functional, and UAT testing.

Documentation, Quality & Best Practice
Produce technical documentation - solution diagrams, test scripts, runbooks, SOPs. Follow ALM/CI-CD using Azure DevOps. Apply secure development practices. Ensure auditability, resilience, compliance.

Collaboration
Work with Platform Engineer, Automation Architect, Process Architects and Analysts. Support Senior Automation Engineer with quality reviews, component reuse, delivery consistency.

Support, Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement
Investigate and resolve defects, workflow failures, integration issues. Contribute to reusable components, standard patterns. Support live automations during hyper-care.

Innovation, AI & Emerging Tech
Explore Copilot agents, Azure AI integration, RAG/Graph patterns. Provide feedback on technology opportunities.
