Application Developer (Mid) – ArcGIS Experience Builder (React/TypeScript)

About the Role
We are seeking a Mid-Level Application Developer to build and maintain geospatial web applications on Esri''''s ArcGIS Experience Builder in support of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program. Working alongside a senior Experience Builder developer, you''''ll configure Experience Builder apps and develop custom React/TypeScript widgets that integrate the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript with feature services and web maps — delivering accessible, reliable mapping and dashboard solutions for mission users. This position requires two days per week onsite in Washington, DC (mandatory).
Key Responsibilities
- Build, configure, and maintain applications in ArcGIS Experience Builder
- Develop and extend custom Experience Builder widgets in React and TypeScript
- Integrate the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript ( @arcgis/core ) — map views, feature layers, spatial queries, and popups
- Consume ArcGIS REST services (Feature/Map services) and content from ArcGIS Online / ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal)
- Ensure Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility across app and map components
- Participate in Agile ceremonies; write clean, tested, documented code and take part in code reviews
- Work under the technical direction of the senior Experience Builder developer and follow established front-end standards
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship (required)
- 4+ years of application development experience, including 1–3 years hands-on with ArcGIS Experience Builder and/or the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript
- Proficiency with React and TypeScript
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS REST API, feature services, and web maps
- Experience with ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal
- Solid HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and Git-based workflows
- Familiarity with Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility
- Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC two days per week (mandatory)
Preferred / Good to Have
- Active or eligible U.S. federal Public Trust
- Custom Experience Builder widget development (manifest, data sources, widget lifecycle)
- Familiarity with the Calcite Design System (Esri''''s component library)
- Exposure to ArcGIS Dashboards, Instant Apps, or StoryMaps
- Python/ArcPy or REST/JSON integration experience
- Prior work on DHS or other federal programs; Agile (Scrum/SAFe) experience
Nice to Have
- Migrating apps from Web AppBuilder to Experience Builder
- Node.js/Express for backend-for-frontend patterns
- Testing with Jest / React Testing Library
