Senior Software Engineer - Oracle PL/SQL

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey (Onsite)

Role Overview

This role supports the Enterprise Finance Technology team, focusing on the development and enhancement of a sub-ledger system. The position involves working with innovative technology-based solutions to improve sub-ledger processes and support operational excellence. The system handles a high volume of trades, valuations, and cash data from upstream trading systems, providing critical data for product controllers and posting journals to general ledger systems for reporting and control.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop enhancements to existing functionality and implement architectural improvements to the system.
• Periodically troubleshoot and support system components.
• Work collaboratively with development teams in Finance Technology to deliver solutions that meet business requirements.
• Engage with the Product Owner and business analysts to deliver user stories and obtain sign-off.
• Contribute to application design, regression test automation, and other efficiency initiatives.
• Participate in all agile ceremonies.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills:

• Knowledge of Oracle 12c or a more recent version, with experience in coding PL/SQL procedures, functions, and packages.
• Proficiency in object-oriented design, design patterns, and a solid architectural understanding.
• Experience with SQL performance tuning.

Professional Skills:

• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with experience in global team interaction.
• A willingness to learn, adopt, and advance team best practices, procedures, and quality standards.
• Capability to own issues and see them through to completion, providing timely communication throughout the process.
• Experience sharing and presenting new ideas and approaches within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial experience with Python.
• Experience with UNIX or Linux.
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio C# .net, particularly in developing Windows applications.
• Familiarity with GIT or Bitbucket.
• Experience with Quartz Python development.
• Understanding of Scrum, Agile, and Lean software development practices and associated tools.
• Experience in investment banking, particularly with front or back office teams.
• A working knowledge of accounting, including corporate general ledger structures and flows.
• Familiarity with automated test tools.
