Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Java Backend API Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in designing and building RESTful APIs, Java/Spring Boot microservices, and data pipelines and a proven ability to deliver scalable, secure, and reliable backend services on containerized cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and maintain versioned RESTful APIs including resource modeling, HTTP semantics, status codes, pagination, filtering, and error contracts.


• Build high-quality Java services using Spring Boot with comprehensive unit, integration, and contract tests.


• Apply API security practices including OAuth 2.0/OIDC, JWT, input validation, and rate limiting.


• Engineer resilient microservices with timeouts, retries with backoff, circuit breakers, idempotency, and graceful degradation.


• Use asynchronous and event-driven patterns with messaging or streaming systems where appropriate.


• Contribute to data pipelines that move and transform data between services and databases.


• Author and review API specifications and provide design feedback to peers.


• Deploy and operate services using Docker and Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines.


• Support enterprise demand management intake and routing within the Apptio platform including configuration, data architecture, and scalable reporting.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 7+ years of experience building backend services in Java.


• Strong hands-on expertise with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.


• Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and writing API specifications.


• Experience building and running microservices in distributed environments.


• Familiarity with messaging or streaming systems such as Kafka.


• Working knowledge of relational databases and data modeling.


• Understanding of data pipelines and transformation patterns.


• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.


• Knowledge of API security practices including OAuth 2.0/OIDC and JWT.

Preferred Skills:

• Data pipeline tools such as Apache Spark and Airflow.


• API gateways and service mesh technologies.


• NoSQL databases and caching solutions.


• Observability tooling for metrics, logs, and tracing.

Work Arrangement & Notes

• Hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite.
