Job Description

We are looking for Software Engineer - Remote / Telecommute for our client in San Jose, CA

Job Title: Software Engineer - Remote / Telecommute

Job Location: San Jose, CA

Job Type: Contract

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $55.00hr - $60.00hr

Requirement/Must Have:

  • Proficiency in C++ including modern C++ standards and idioms.
  • Working knowledge of Starlark or strong experience with Bazel build systems.
  • Familiarity with developer ecosystems, development workflows, and release automation systems.
  • Understanding of build systems, microservices, and client-server metadata services.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple migrations in parallel while keeping statuses and roadmaps structured.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and diverse engineering teams.
  • Careful approach to production rollouts, change management, and rapid incident response.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute an end-to-end migration of clients from legacy services to modern target services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal client teams to communicate timelines and migration expectations.
  • Track, organize, and orchestrate concurrent client migrations across multiple developer teams.
  • Author, test, and submit configuration changes utilizing release tooling.
  • Monitor health metrics, telemetry dashboards, and build logs during and after cutover to identify anomalies.
  • Directly update client codebases to migrate service requests and dependencies.
  • Read, write, and refactor build rules and dependencies in Starlark across internal build files.
  • Implement, test, and submit production-quality changes in internal C++ libraries and client wrappers.
  • Ensure changes pass presubmit checks and integration test suites.

Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience executing large-scale deprecations or service migrations.
  • Experience writing or refactoring custom Bazel/Starlark build rules.
  • Background in Developer Infrastructure, Core Build Tools, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
