Position Overview
A growing civil litigation law firm is seeking an experienced Appellate & Litigation Support Attorney to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished appellate attorney and exceptional legal writer who enjoys working closely with trial counsel on sophisticated insurance defense and civil litigation matters.
The attorney will handle all aspects of appellate practice while serving as a strategic resource to trial attorneys throughout the litigation process. Responsibilities will include appellate briefing, complex legal research and analysis, trial and hearing support, preservation of appellate issues, and advising attorneys and clients on litigation strategy and potential outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings recent insurance defense experience and at least 5 years of substantive appellate experience.
This position offers significant flexibility and may be performed remotely or from one of the firm's office locations. Candidates must reside in Florida or Georgia.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle all phases of appellate litigation, including drafting appellate briefs, motions, memoranda, and other filings.
- Collaborate with trial attorneys to provide strategic litigation and trial support on complex insurance defense matters.
- Attend trials as needed to serve as appellate counsel, assist with preservation of issues for appeal, and provide real-time strategic guidance.
- Conduct sophisticated legal research and analysis involving complex procedural and substantive issues.
- Draft and review dispositive motions, post-trial motions, and other significant litigation filings.
- Assist attorneys with hearing and trial preparation.
- Analyze complex legal matters, identify potential risks and appellate issues, and develop effective case strategies.
- Advise attorneys and clients regarding legal strategy, exposure, and potential outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and support professionals to ensure efficient case management and exceptional client service.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and timely case files, research, and documentation.
- Meet established billable-hour expectations and internal deadlines.
- Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the firm's litigation and appellate practices.

Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will be an experienced appellate attorney who combines outstanding legal writing with recent, hands-on insurance defense experience. This individual should be equally comfortable analyzing a complex trial record, developing appellate strategy, drafting a persuasive brief, and working alongside trial counsel to protect the record and position a matter for a successful appeal.
Candidates must reside in Florida or Georgia and must have an active Florida Bar license.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active admission to the Florida Bar.
- 5+ years of substantive appellate experience.
- Recent insurance defense litigation experience.
- Demonstrated experience handling appellate briefs, complex legal research, and sophisticated written advocacy.
- Insurance litigation experience involving one or more of the following:
- First-party and third-party insurance claims
- Insurance coverage
- Bad faith litigation
- Personal injury defense
- Auto liability
- Premises liability
- Property damage
- Products liability
- Exceptional legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Strong understanding of appellate procedure and preservation of issues for appeal.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong critical-thinking, judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative legal team.

- Significant experience handling insurance defense appeals.
- Experience providing appellate counsel and support during complex civil trials.
- Strong record of drafting persuasive appellate briefs and dispositive motions.
- Ability to quickly analyze complex records and identify key legal and appellate issues.

- Self-motivated attorney who is comfortable taking ownership of cases and projects from inception through resolution.
