Contract Position – Project-Based Assignment

Travel: 75%+ to TX

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Field Professional Services Engineer to support large-scale network infrastructure deployments at customer sites.

This is not a traditional remote or cloud-focused Network Engineer position. The ideal candidate combines strong enterprise networking knowledge with the willingness and ability to perform significant physical, outdoor field work.

This engineer will serve as a “boots-on-the-ground” technical resource, responsible for physically building and deploying network infrastructure while also configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting the underlying network technologies.

The role requires 75%+ travel, including extended onsite assignments and work in active construction and outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Physically deploy enterprise network infrastructure at customer locations, including switches, wireless access points, antennas, edge devices, and related equipment.
  • Pull and deploy temporary outdoor fiber-optic cabling across customer properties and job sites.
  • Evaluate proposed fiber pathways and determine appropriate routes based on site conditions, accessibility, protection requirements, and deployment needs.
  • Route, connect, protect, label, organize, and test pre-terminated fiber-optic and copper cabling.
  • Perform rack-and-stack, equipment mounting, cabling, power-up, and physical installation of network hardware.
  • Climb ladders and mount/affix antennas and wireless equipment to the exterior of buildings as required.
  • Configure and support enterprise switching, routing, wireless, and edge networking solutions.
  • Assist with deployment, configuration, troubleshooting, and analysis of technologies including Juniper Mist, Aruba Central, Cradlepoint NCM, and related network platforms.
  • Perform Layer 1 through Layer 3 troubleshooting to isolate fiber, cabling, optics, hardware, port, VLAN, wireless, routing, and configuration issues.
  • Conduct installation validation, connectivity testing, and post-deployment verification.
  • Stage, transport, inventory, and prepare network equipment for field deployments.
  • Maintain accurate daily documentation, photographs, cable records, and as-built documentation.
  • Work independently onsite while remaining closely coordinated with engineering and project management teams.
  • Proactively identify and escalate risks, installation challenges, and technical issues.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, engineers, contractors, and other onsite personnel.
  • Follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with enterprise network deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience performing physical network infrastructure installations, not solely remote network administration or cloud engineering.
  • Hands-on experience pulling, routing, connecting, and testing fiber-optic cabling, including pre-terminated fiber.
  • Ability to evaluate physical fiber paths and determine practical and safe routes for temporary outdoor deployments.
  • Experience with rack/stack, structured cabling, copper cabling, switches, access points, antennas, and edge devices.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise routing, switching, wireless networking, VLANs, TCP/IP, and Layer 1–3 troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable performing significant physical work outdoors and at active construction/project sites.
  • Ability and willingness to climb ladders and mount equipment/antennas on building exteriors.
  • Comfortable working in demanding conditions, including extreme heat, remote job sites, and environments requiring hard hats, safety vests, and safety-toe boots.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools.
  • Ability to troubleshoot independently and solve unexpected field problems with limited onsite support.
  • Strong customer-facing communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to travel 75%+, including extended onsite assignments.
  • Valid driver's license.
