About One Pass
One Pass is redefining how people engage with health, wellness, and everyday living. Through a comprehensive engagement and loyalty platform, we empower millions of members to live healthier, more connected lives. Backed by deep partnerships across healthcare and supported by a culture of innovation, cross‑functional collaboration, and relentless curiosity, One Pass is scaling rapidly and shaping the future how people lead healthier, fuller lives.
About the Role
As we continue to scale, our need for data-driven insights is growing rapidly. We’re ingesting, processing, and serving more data than ever before, and data plays a central role in how we build products, make decisions, and create competitive advantages. We believe data should be a core capability of the business, not simply a reporting function, and we're looking for a leader who is excited to help us build that capability from the ground up.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who thrives in startup environments and enjoys creating systems, processes, and teams that can scale. You'll have significant ownership over how our data function evolves and the autonomy to shape its future. Success in this role requires the ability to move seamlessly between long-term strategy and hands-on execution, from defining a data vision and operating model to making critical architecture and design decisions.
To support our next stage of growth, we are looking for Head of Data to oversee our Data organization, including data engineering, analytics, reporting, and data science. We're open to hiring this role at either a Senior Manager or early Director level, depending on the experience and scope a candidate brings — the right level will be determined collaboratively through the interview process. This is a people leadership role with direct management responsibility for the individuals across these functions, while also serving as a technical leader responsible for guiding our overall data strategy and platform evolution.
Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will be a key member of the engineering leadership team. You’ll inherit a high-performing team of nine across data engineering, analytics, and data science: small enough that your impact will be immediate and highly visible, yet large enough to already be solving meaningful challenges at scale.
While people leadership is a core part of the role, this is not a purely managerial position. As a growing company, we need a leader who enjoys staying close to the technology, partnering with engineers on architecture, influencing technical direction, and helping solve complex data problems. You'll work closely with our Staff Data Engineer on the technical leadership of the data organization — you'll be a strong technical voice and decision-maker, but not the only one, and this role is well-suited to someone who enjoys developing technical direction collaboratively rather than owning it unilaterally. You will play a pivotal role in defining our data platform, driving data quality and governance, and enabling the business to leverage data more effectively across every function.
Most importantly, you will help transform data from an internal support function into a strategic product capability that differentiates us in the market. The decisions you make over the next 12 to 18 months will establish the foundation for how the company captures, manages, and leverages data for years to come.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the transformation of data from a reporting and analytics function into a strategic product capability, identifying opportunities to leverage data as a competitive advantage, unlock new business value, and accelerate growth.
Define and drive the company’s data vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring our data platform and capabilities scale alongside the business.
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing data organization spanning data engineering, analytics, and data science. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Partner closely with cross-functional leaders and stakeholders to translate company objectives into scalable data solutions, platforms, and insights that drive decision-making.
Help shape the technical direction of the data platform in close partnership with our Staff Data Engineer, contributing to key architectural decisions while remaining hands-on in the design and implementation of critical systems and solutions. Establish engineering standards, best practices, and design patterns across the data ecosystem, while mentoring team members and elevating technical excellence throughout the organization.
Drive the evolution of data engineering practices, including data modeling, data quality, governance, security, observability, and validation frameworks to ensure trusted and reliable data at scale.
Lead the design, implementation, and operation of cloud-based data infrastructure and services on AWS, balancing scalability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Identify and prioritize investments in data platforms, tooling, and processes that enable faster product development, deeper customer insights, and increased organizational leverage.
Serve as a key member of the engineering leadership team, influencing company-wide technology strategy and helping shape how data powers future products, decisions, and growth initiatives.
About You
You’re a strong technical leader who can leverage both technical and leadership skills, and who has led multiple technical teams simultaneously. You have a proven ability to solve complex engineering problems, with a focus on system design, performance, and scalability, and you communicate well across cross-functional teams. You thrive here if you enjoy creating clarity out of ambiguity rather than waiting for it to be handed to you, and you're skilled at balancing tradeoffs between delivering short-term value and long-term architectural integrity. You enjoy mentoring other engineers and scaling your impact by elevating the people and teams around you. Just as important, you thrive in a small, fast-moving company environment — comfortable wearing multiple hats and moving fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on technical execution — and ideally you've had a hand in turning data into a product or business differentiator, not just internal reporting or BI.
What this role offers:
A unique opportunity to define the future of data at a company where data is becoming a core strategic capability.
Direct influence on company and product strategy, not simply execution against an established roadmap.
A seat on the engineering leadership team and the ability to shape technology decisions across the organization.
The opportunity to build and scale a modern data platform, data organization, and data culture from an early stage.
Significant autonomy, ownership, and visibility, with a direct connection between your decisions and business outcomes.
The ability to grow the function alongside the company, including expanding the team and developing future leaders.
The chance to leave a lasting mark on how data powers our products, decision-making, and competitive advantage for years to come.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, data platforms, or related technical disciplines, with a track record of building and scaling data capabilities in high-growth environments
3+ years of people management experience, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development of engineers, analysts, data scientists, or other technical professionals.
Experience defining data architecture, platform strategy, and engineering standards for modern data ecosystems.
Strong proficiency with SQL and deep understanding of relational database design, optimization, and performance tuning.
Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience developing production systems with Python and other modern programming languages.
Expertise with modern cloud data platforms and warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, or similar solutions.
Experience designing, building, and operating scalable batch and real-time or near real-time data processing pipelines.
Experience using GitHub or similar source control platforms in collaborative, distributed engineering teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate business goals into technical strategies and influence decision-making across the organization.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building data products, or data-driven features that serve as a competitive differentiator or revenue driver, beyond internal reporting/BI.
Deep knowledge and hands on experience with AWS tools such as – Redshift, S3, MSK, Glue, SageMaker, Bedrock
Experience with Kafka, dbt, data orchestration tools (e.g. Airflow, Dagster)
Experience working with both batch and near-real-time data processing pipelines
Solid experience designing and implementing scalable distributed systems
