Description

We are looking for an experienced User Experience (UX) Designer to support the creation of thoughtful, efficient digital experiences for medical device software in Carlsbad, California. This Long-term onsite Contract position focuses on shaping desktop and web-based applications used in surgical planning and visualization, with an emphasis on usability, clarity, and workflow alignment. The ideal candidate will combine strong research skills, interface design expertise, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver solutions that meet clinical, operational, and product needs.

Responsibilities

Lead discovery activities such as user interviews, observational research, and workflow analysis to uncover the needs of surgeons, clinicians, and internal stakeholders.

Convert research findings and real-world workflow insights into clear design recommendations, user needs, and experience improvements.

Create intuitive interfaces for sophisticated desktop and web applications that support surgical planning, visualization, and related operational tasks.

Establish cohesive interaction models, navigation structures, and screen patterns that promote a consistent experience across the platform.

Develop wireframes, visual mockups, and interactive prototypes at varying levels of fidelity to communicate design direction effectively.

Organize and facilitate usability evaluations with representative users, then refine designs based on test results, feedback, and business requirements.

Help strengthen and evolve a scalable design system that supports accessibility, consistency, and ease of use across products.

Collaborate closely with engineering, product, clinical, regulatory, and quality partners to ensure concepts are feasible, compliant, and aligned with usability engineering expectations.

Present user flows, interface concepts, and experience strategies to cross-functional teams and leadership in a clear and compelling manner.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in UX or UI/UX design, preferably within complex software environments.

Demonstrated success applying user-centered design methods, including user research, prototyping, and usability testing.

Strong ability to simplify technical or clinically driven workflows into intuitive and effective interfaces.

Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar platforms.

Experience designing for desktop and web applications with a focus on consistency, usability, and accessibility.

Excellent visual communication, storytelling, and presentation skills.

Proven ability to work effectively with engineering, product, clinical, regulatory, and quality teams in a cross-functional setting.

Must be local to San Diego
