Research Assistant

Location: Norwood (CDP), MA Salary: $40.00 USD Hourly - $50.00 USD Hourly Description:
Title: Research Associate
Type: Contract
Location: Norwood, MA - Onsite
Support laboratory testing and research projects focused on fire suppression, fire detection, water spray characterization, and explosion protection. This hands-on role works closely with senior scientists to conduct experiments, maintain laboratory equipment, and support product and technology development.
Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory experiments and collect accurate test data.
• Design, build, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot test equipment, sensors, and instrumentation.
• Assist with planning, setup, and execution of research experiments.
• Develop test procedures and recommend equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Manage assigned laboratory projects and maintain safe operating conditions.
• Analyze and document experimental results.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, plus 3+ years of relevant laboratory, fabrication, machining, or instrumentation experience.
• Equivalent hands-on experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to design, fabricate, and modify experimental setups.
• Understanding of combustion, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics principles.
• Experience with instrumentation, diagnostics, and laboratory testing equipment.
• Familiarity with machine shop tools and fabrication equipment.
• Proficiency with LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar technical software.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.
• Strong communication, teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions in a laboratory or testing environment
