Lead Data Analyst – Personal Lines Insurance
Location: Hartford, CT 06155 – Hybrid
Industry: Property & Casualty Insurance
Note: Duck Creek experience is highly preferred.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Analyst with strong expertise in Personal Lines Insurance, specifically Automotive and Home Insurance, to lead a critical legacy modernization initiative.
The successful candidate will drive the data strategy, analysis, mapping, reconciliation, and validation required to migrate core insurance systems from a legacy Mainframe environment to Duck Creek.
This role will serve as a key bridge between business stakeholders, data migration teams, engineering teams, and system integrators, ensuring data integrity, regulatory compliance, business continuity, and minimal disruption throughout the migration.
Key Responsibilities
Data Migration Analysis & Strategy

Lead data analysis and migration activities for large-scale modernization of legacy insurance systems.
Perform Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) from legacy Mainframe data structures, including COBOL/DB2, to Duck Creek standard data models.
Analyze and interpret legacy data structures, COBOL copybooks, DB2 tables, flat files, and related data sources.
Lead data profiling activities across historical policy, claims, and billing data to identify data gaps, duplicates, inconsistencies, quality issues, and cleansing requirements.
Define and document business transformation rules to ensure legacy Personal Lines products, including Auto and Home, are accurately mapped to Duck Creek product configurations.
Identify migration risks, data dependencies, transformation requirements, and potential downstream impacts.
Develop data migration strategies that support business continuity, data integrity, and operational readiness.

Insurance Domain & Data Validation

Apply strong knowledge of Personal Lines Insurance, including Auto and Home policy lifecycles, policy structures, coverages, deductibles, claims, billing, and related business processes.
Validate complex insurance metrics throughout the migration lifecycle, including:
Written Premium
Earned Premium
Loss History
Policy Coverages
Deductibles
Claims and Billing Data
Establish and execute data validation and reconciliation processes to ensure migrated data accurately reflects legacy business records.
Develop automated reconciliation frameworks to validate millions of migrated records and confirm financial and operational balances.
Investigate data discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions with migration, development, business, and integration teams.
Collaborate with Underwriting, Product Owners, Claims, Billing, and business stakeholders to validate migrated functionality and business rules.
Ensure automated rating engine inputs and outputs perform consistently with legacy rules or provide improved business outcomes.

Team Leadership

Lead and mentor a team of Data Analysts supporting multiple migration workstreams.
Assign and manage data migration streams such as Auto Policy, Home Policy, Claims, and Billing.
Establish priorities, track deliverables, monitor progress, and ensure migration milestones are achieved.
Review analytical outputs, mapping documents, validation results, and reconciliation reports for accuracy and completeness.
Identify resource requirements, delivery risks, dependencies, and potential project impacts.

Stakeholder Management & Reporting

Serve as the primary data liaison between business stakeholders, data migration engineers, system integrators, and technical teams.
Translate complex technical data migration issues into clear business impact statements for leadership.
Communicate data quality issues, migration risks, dependencies, and readiness status to project leadership.
Develop and maintain weekly migration readiness dashboards, status reports, and data quality metrics.
Facilitate working sessions with business and technical teams to resolve data mapping, transformation, and validation issues.
Ensure stakeholders have clear visibility into migration progress, risks, issues, and remediation plans.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
8+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Data Consultant, or similar data-focused role.
At least 3 years of experience leading data workstreams for large-scale core insurance platform migrations.
Strong domain expertise in Personal Lines Insurance, particularly:
Auto Insurance
Home Insurance
Policy Administration
Claims
Billing
Coverages and Deductibles
Premium and Loss Data
Hands-on experience working with Mainframe environments, including COBOL copybooks, DB2, flat files, and legacy data structures.
Strong experience with SQL, including complex joins, unions, subqueries, data profiling, reconciliation, and data validation scripts.
Experience performing Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) and defining data transformation rules.
Demonstrated experience with data profiling, cleansing, migration validation, reconciliation, and data quality management.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Experience leading data analysts or data migration workstreams.

Preferred Qualifications

Duck Creek experience is highly preferred, particularly experience with Duck Creek Policy, Claims, or Billing.
Duck Creek certification or formal Duck Creek Policy/Claims training.
Experience migrating legacy insurance platforms to Duck Creek.
Experience working with Azure or AWS as staging or supporting environments during data migration initiatives.
Knowledge of state-specific regulatory reporting requirements for Auto and Home insurance.
Experience with large-scale insurance modernization and core platform transformation programs.
Experience developing automated data reconciliation and validation frameworks
