Description
Our defense engineering client in Burnsville is hiring a Technical Writer to author hardware maintenance manuals, component replacement procedures, and Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) for military systems. You will sit directly alongside engineers in a collaborative 30-person department, with dedicated mentorship from senior leads during your first 90 days to learn DoD standards.
Responsibilities
Develop and revise maintenance manuals, replacement procedures, and other technical documents for military equipment and related hardware systems. Convert engineering drawings, schematics, and technical input from subject matter experts into step-by-step instructions for end users and maintainers. Collaborate in person with engineers and cross-functional team members to ensure documentation is technically accurate, usable, and complete. Prepare content for Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals and support documentation aligned with military program expectations.
Participate in document review cycles, incorporating feedback and maintaining consistency across deliverables. Help manage version control and configuration practices to keep program documentation current and properly organized. Requirements
At least 3 years of technical writing experience gained after graduation, focused on hardware, mechanical equipment, or maintenance documentation. Ability to produce clear procedural writing for complex mechanical or electrical systems. Willingness and ability to work onsite on a permanent basis in Burnsville, Minnesota.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and be able to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance upon permanent conversion. Ability to provide 2 to 3 writing samples that demonstrate procedural, maintenance, or mechanically focused documentation. Experience with technical writing tools or standards such as Arbortext, S1000D, or Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals is preferred. Innovation starts with people.
