Senior Software Developer

The artists on our team have been making larger-than-life visual effects for film and television for 10 years, bringing their rich and diverse experience  from Montreal, Toronto, Bogotá, Saguenay, Mumbai and now in London.

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to design and build tools and systems that support our visual effects production pipeline.

Working closely with developers, technical directors, and artists, you will translate production needs into reliable, maintainable software that improves workflows and helps teams deliver their best work. You will contribute to technical architecture, take ownership of development projects, and help strengthen engineering practices through collaboration, code reviews, and mentoring.

This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership and a practical approach to solving complex production challenges.

Working hours: This position requires working Montreal business hours (Eastern Time), including seasonal daylight-saving time changes.

• Develop pipeline tools and systems: Design, build, and maintain software that streamlines workflows, automates tasks, and connects applications across the VFX production pipeline.
• Shape software architecture: Design scalable, maintainable solutions using appropriate design patterns and sound engineering principles, balancing long-term needs with production priorities.
• Maintain software quality: Write clear, well-tested code, participate in peer reviews, and promote consistent coding standards, automated testing, and Test-Driven Development where appropriate.
• Collaborate with production teams: Work with production, finance, HR, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, identify workflow improvements, and deliver practical solutions.
• Own delivery: Break down technical work, estimate effort, identify dependencies and risks, and communicate progress to support planning and prioritization.
• Troubleshoot and improve: Investigate software and integration issues, resolve underlying causes, and improve system reliability and performance.
• Mentor and share knowledge: Support other developers through technical guidance, constructive feedback, and knowledge sharing.
• Document solutions: Maintain clear technical documentation to support adoption, ongoing maintenance, and continuity across the team.

• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining complex software systems, with the ability to lead technical decisions and deliver solutions independently.
• Strong proficiency in Python and C++, with experience developing and maintaining production software.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, and SOLID principles, with the judgment to apply them appropriately.
• Experience with automated testing, including unit and integration tests, and familiarity with Test-Driven Development.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows, including code reviews.
• Ability to translate complex requirements into practical, maintainable technical solutions.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with attention to reliability, performance, and usability.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and creative teams.
• Experience mentoring developers and taking ownership of technical projects.
• A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  Additional Assets

• Experience in VFX, animation, or a related production environment.
• Experience in developing tools and integrations for Payroll, HRIS and Financial Services.
• Familiarity with Clean Architecture, CQRS, or other architectural approaches.
• Experience with cloud services supporting production pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile development practices and project tracking tools such as Jira or Asana.
