Position Overview

Caterpillar is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 3 to support the Remote Control System group. This position will be part of an engineering team responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and testing robust and scalable features for embedded electronic control systems and vision systems used in remote-control machine applications.

The engineer will contribute to embedded software development, system integration, verification and validation, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis, while collaborating with Remote Control system engineers and global engineering teams to deliver production-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define system requirements, architecture, interfaces, and end-to-end feature traceability.
  • Design, develop, integrate, and validate Remote Control Systems across software, hardware, controls, and communication networks.
  • Develop and maintain embedded software using Embedded C/C++ and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Perform system integration, verification & validation (V&V), troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
  • Support functional safety, FMEA, product quality, and software release activities.
  • Utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to improve engineering productivity, testing, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with Remote Control system engineers and global engineering teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
  • Support system integration activities as part of a 7 8 person development team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience, with 5 7 years preferred in Systems Engineering, Embedded Software Development, Integration, and Validation.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Requirements Engineering
    • System Architecture
    • Electrical Schematics
    • System Integration
    • Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Proficiency in:
    • Embedded C/C++
    • MATLAB/Simulink
    • RTOS
    • CAN
    • Ethernet
    • Embedded Control Systems
  • Experience with CANoe/CANalyzer, Wireshark, Git, and modern development and testing tools.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted engineering tools, such as GitHub Copilot or Microsoft Copilot.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Top 3 Required Skills

  1. 5+ years of Embedded C and MATLAB/Simulink experience
  2. 5+ years of embedded system development experience with RTOS
  3. 3 5 years of system integration experience

Preferred / Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Autonomy, Robotics, Remote Control, or Machine Control Systems.

  • Performing V&V and system integration testing.
  • Troubleshooting embedded systems and conducting root-cause analysis.

  • Collaborating with Remote Control engineers and global teams.
