About the Role:

As our Restaurant Supervisor, you will help lead the day-to-day operations of the hotel's restaurant, ensuring an energetic, welcoming, and memorable dining experience for every guest. You will supervise the Food & Beverage team, support service execution, maintain quality standards, and help drive restaurant revenue and guest satisfaction.

Your Impact – Creating a Social Dining Experience

You will help set the tone for every dining experience at M Social Sunnyvale. Through hands-on leadership, thoughtful service, and strong operational execution, you will help ensure our restaurant feels vibrant, welcoming, and uniquely M Social.

What You'll Be Doing

Restaurant Operations

  • Supervise daily restaurant operations to ensure smooth, efficient, and high-quality service
  • Support the Restaurant Manager and Food & Beverage leadership with daily operational needs
  • Coordinate opening, operating, and closing procedures
  • Monitor table assignments, reservations, seating flow, and guest wait times
  • Ensure dining areas, service stations, and restaurant spaces are clean, organized, and guest-ready
  • Monitor food and beverage service to ensure quality, presentation, and consistency
  • Ensure all service procedures and standards are consistently followed
  • Assist with managing restaurant flow during high-volume periods
  • Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs to management

Guest Experience

  • Welcome guests warmly and create a memorable first impression
  • Engage with guests and create an environment that encourages connection and social interaction
  • Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience
  • Handle guest concerns and complaints professionally and efficiently
  • Provide service recovery when appropriate and follow up to ensure guest satisfaction
  • Anticipate guest needs and look for opportunities to personalize the experience
  • Promote restaurant offerings, specialty items, events, and hotel amenities
  • Encourage the team to create genuine connections with guests

Team Leadership & Coaching

  • Lead by example and consistently demonstrate M Social service standards
  • Supervise, coach, and support restaurant team members during each shift
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities, specials, promotions, and operational updates
  • Train team members on service standards, menu knowledge, POS procedures, and guest engagement
  • Provide real-time coaching and constructive feedback
  • Monitor employee performance, appearance, attendance, and adherence to company policies
  • Recognize team members for exceptional service and contributions
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, collaborative, and social team environment
  • Assist with scheduling and staffing needs based on business levels

Food & Beverage Service

  • Ensure food and beverages are served according to established quality and presentation standards
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the restaurant menu, ingredients, beverages, and daily offerings
  • Ensure servers and team members are knowledgeable about menu items and able to make recommendations
  • Monitor ticket times and coordinate with the culinary team to ensure efficient service
  • Communicate guest dietary restrictions and allergies appropriately
  • Ensure proper service sequences and table maintenance are followed
  • Support special events, group dining, and VIP experiences as needed

Revenue & Financial Controls

  • Support the restaurant's revenue and profitability goals
  • Encourage appropriate upselling of food, beverages, and specialty offerings
  • Monitor checks, discounts, voids, comps, and payment transactions for accuracy
  • Ensure cash and credit card procedures are followed
  • Review daily reports and identify discrepancies requiring follow-up
  • Assist management with controlling labor and operational costs
  • Monitor waste and assist with implementing cost-control procedures

Safety, Sanitation & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and food handling standards
  • Monitor cleanliness of dining and service areas throughout each shift
  • Ensure proper food handling and sanitation procedures are followed
  • Maintain awareness of food allergies and communicate them appropriately
  • Follow hotel procedures for emergencies, accidents, and guest incidents
  • Report safety hazards and maintenance concerns immediately
  • Ensure employees follow established uniform, grooming, and personal hygiene standards

Communication & Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the culinary team to ensure smooth service
  • Communicate with Front Office regarding VIP guests, groups, special occasions, and guest requests
  • Collaborate with Sales and Events teams on group functions and special events
  • Coordinate with Housekeeping and Engineering regarding restaurant operational needs
  • Communicate important information during shift changes
  • Participate in daily operational meetings as needed
  • Maintain clear, professional, and positive communication with hotel leadership and team members

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

    • Minimum 2 years of Food & Beverage or restaurant experience, with supervisory experience preferred
    • Previous experience in a full-service hotel, restaurant, or hospitality environment
    • Strong knowledge of restaurant service standards and operations
    • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
    • Experience with POS systems and cash handling
    • Knowledge of food and beverage products, service techniques, and menu presentation
    • Ability to understand and monitor restaurant financial and operational reports
    • Experience with banquet, group dining, or special events is a plus
    • Food Handler certification required or ability to obtain as required
    • Responsible Beverage Service certification preferred or required based on position responsibilities and applicable regulations

Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience as a Restaurant Supervisor, Lead Server, or Assistant Restaurant Manager
    • Experience supervising and developing Food & Beverage employees
    • Previous hotel restaurant or resort experience
    • Experience with high-volume restaurant operations
    • Experience with guest recovery and service excellence
    • Strong knowledge of food and beverage trends
    • Experience with opening a new restaurant or hotel is a plus
    • Bilingual abilities are a plus

Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
    • Ability to move throughout the restaurant, kitchen, and hotel
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
    • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout the shift
    • Ability to operate POS systems and standard restaurant equipment
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods
    • Ability to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events

Education

    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Restaurant Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
    • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant hospitality experience may be considered where appropriate
