Location: ONSITE Cedar Rapids, IA

Employment Type: Long Term Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Embedded Linux development to support advanced research and product development initiatives focused on next-generation embedded systems. This role will contribute to the design, development, testing, and support of software that powers complex hardware platforms in a collaborative Agile environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Embedded Linux, device driver development, board support packages (BSPs), hardware integration, and low-level debugging.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Embedded Linux software solutions.
• Develop and support Board Support Packages (BSPs), device drivers, bootloaders, kernels, and root file systems.
• Perform board bring-up activities and integrate software with target hardware platforms.
• Investigate and resolve complex hardware and software issues through root cause analysis.
• Utilize debugging tools, hardware schematics, and diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot system behavior.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and collaborative development activities.
• Manage work items, defects, and change requests using Jira.
• Follow established engineering, quality, and development processes.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or a related STEM field with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR
• Master's degree in a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR
• 9+ years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum 3 years of experience developing Embedded Linux device drivers.
• Strong programming experience with Embedded C and C++.
• Experience with Bash and Python scripting.
• Experience with board bring-up and hardware integration.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware/software issues and performing root cause analysis.
• Experience using debugging tools and interpreting hardware schematics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Git and SVN version control systems.
• Experience building and packaging custom Linux distributions using Buildroot.
• Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
• Experience working within DevSecOps environments.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
