Job Description

As a Computer Build Technician at Micro Center, you will assemble, configure, and test custom desktop PCs for customers in a fast-paced retail environment. You will interpret build sheets, select compatible components, install hardware, update BIOS, and load operating systems. You'll diagnose and resolve hardware issues, perform upgrades, cable management, and burn-in testing to ensure stability. Partner closely with sales and service teams to understand customer needs, explain technical choices in clear terms, and maintain detailed build documentation while meeting quality, safety, and ESD standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and configure custom desktop PCs to customer specifications
  • Interpret build sheets and verify component compatibility
  • Install CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, power supplies, and cooling solutions
  • Update BIOS/UEFI, install operating systems, and apply drivers and updates
  • Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair of hardware issues
  • Conduct stress tests and burn-in procedures to ensure system stability
  • Maintain clean cable management and professional build quality
  • Document builds, test results, and parts used in service systems
  • Follow ESD, safety, and quality standards in the build area
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to clarify requirements and timelines
