Job Description

Dumfries Campus - 7 hours per week, £30,397.46 pro rata, Permanent

Who we are

Dumfries and Galloway College is an award-winning institution located in the south-west of Scotland, with campuses in Dumfries and Stranraer. We are committed to digital innovation, educational excellence, and supporting our region’s learners and employers through secure, reliable, and future-focused digital services.

Our Digital Services team plays a vital role in enabling and protecting the college’s infrastructure and we’re now looking for a skilled technician to join that team.

What’s the job?

We’re seeking a proactive Digital Security & Systems Technician to support the College’s core digital systems, including SQL databases, IIS/Apache web servers, VMware infrastructure, and mobile device management platforms (e.g., Intune, Jamf Pro, Google MDM).

You'll play a hands-on role in maintaining secure configurations, contributing to Cyber Essentials Plus compliance, supporting Power BI dashboards, and responding to alerts from vulnerability and SIEM tools.

This is an exciting opportunity to build experience across a wide technical stack while working as part of a supportive and forward-thinking team.

Who we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced second-line support technician or systems administrator with a strong understanding of secure infrastructure, and a methodical, customer-focused approach to your work.

You will have:

  • Experience supporting server environments (Windows Server, Linux, VMware)
  • A good understanding of web and database platforms (IIS, Apache, SQL Server)
  • Familiarity with Power BI and enterprise MDM solutions
  • Knowledge of networking basics and cybersecurity best practices

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience with vulnerability management or SIEM tools
  • An understanding of Cyber Essentials Plus standards
  • Relevant IT qualifications or certifications in networking or security

What you’ll get in return

  • Up to 45 days annual leave pro rata (including bank holidays and college closure days)
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Access to a wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, including lifestyle discounts, Cycle to Work, and Employee Assistance Programme
  • This is an on-site role

How to apply

If you're ready to make a difference and grow your technical career, apply via the Dumfries and Galloway College website by 5pm on Tuesday 22nd September 2026.
