The Work
The Voice Data Communication Engineer, SME will provide technical direction, engineering expertise, and support across a variety of communication domains, including the planning, designing, development, installation, testing, and maintenance of large communications networks. This entry-level position will allow you to leverage foundational skills while gaining hands-on experience and professional growth within a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities

• Network Design & Development: Assist in planning, designing, and developing large-scale voice and data communications networks to meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
• Installation & Infrastructure Support: Participate in the installation and deployment of voice/data communication systems, ensuring adherence to organizational and industry standards.
• Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting of communication network components to ensure reliable functionality and optimal performance.
• Maintenance: Support the maintenance and repair of network infrastructure, addressing and resolving issues to ensure uninterrupted operation of communication systems.
• Technical Documentation: Assist in preparing detailed documentation, network configurations, and system procedures to support ongoing operations and future upgrades.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional technical teams to coordinate activities and implement communication solutions that align with business needs.
• Industry Best Practices: Apply engineering knowledge to meet organizational goals while ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided to direct building architects and planners in building communications spaces and media pathways meet industry standards.
• Develops, operates, and maintains voice, wireless, video, and data communications systems.
• Provides complex engineering or analytical tasks and activities associated with one or more technical areas within the communications function.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications - Here's What You Need

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• At least 10 years of relevant work experience in voice/data communications engineering is preferred

but not required for candidates with certifications and strong technical aptitude.

• Once of the following certifications are required:
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer or Cisco Certified Design Expert.
• Top-Secret Clearance is required.

• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills:

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a clear, professional, and articulate manner.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high-level attention to detail.
• Proven ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast past environment with changing priorities; adaptable to change and a quick learner.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently as well as on a multi-functional team.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
• Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Foundational understanding of voice and data communication technologies, protocols, and standards (e.g., VoIP, TCP/IP, SIP).
• Ability to analyze, interpret, and resolve network issues efficiently.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Interest in developing skills in large communications network environments.
• Familiarity with network and telecommunication tools and diagnostic utilities (hardware and software).

Reports to: Program Manager
Working Conditions

• Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• May require lifting and moving hardware equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Some tasks may involve standing, bending, or working in confined technical spaces.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
• May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
