AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Boston on October 21-22, 2026. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2027.
The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.
On Thursday, interviews will take place at our Boston office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern to support the AECOM Transportation, Structures Department in our Rocky Hill, CT office.
Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.
This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2027.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands-on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.
- Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study.
- Interns perform assignments related to the design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of highway bridges, railroad bridges and ancillary structures.
- Working under the direction and supervision of an engineer, interns will assist in the development of calculations, drawings, construction cost estimates, and technical specifications.
- Enthusiastic individuals eager to face new challenges and take on personal responsibilities are best qualified to meet the demands of this work. An intern is expected to be able to apply technical training to perform basic calculations, work well in a team setting, and be willing to work diligently to learn new skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Civil Engineering or another related field with the intent to continue enrollment after the internship and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of industry-standard software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InRoads, OpenRoads)Strong organizational, technical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage time and deadlines, keep track of steps, and prioritize tasks.1 cycle of internship experience is a plus.
- Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
- Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.
- The selected candidate must be available to work in Rocky Hill, CT on a scheduled basis.
