Sr. Forward Deployed Engineer

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Sr. Forward Deployed Engineer for a right to hire assignment with one of our premier financial services clients in Mississauga, ON .
Responsibilities :

• Seeking a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) with deep Java and Python technology expertise to work directly with our clients in the Spread Products space.
• This is an engineering/customer-facing role for someone who can architect, build, and deploy production-grade solutions on-site or in close collaboration with client trading, risk, and operations teams - while owning the full technical delivery lifecycle from discovery to production hardening.
• The ideal candidate is already an experienced Full-Stack/Backend Architect (Java and/or Python) who thrives in ambiguous, fast-paced client environments, can rapidly translate complex business requirements into working software, and is comfortable being the technical face of the engineering organization in front of customers. Domain exposure to Financing and Securitization business is a plus, not a prerequisite.
• Customer Delivery & Field Engineering
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact embedded with client teams to gather requirements, scope solutions, and define technical sequencing.
  • Rapidly prototype and deliver production-ready applications - using Java or Python, whichever best fits the use case - that solve real trading, risk, and operational problems.
  • Balance tradeoffs between scope, speed, and quality to meet aggressive client timelines without compromising system integrity.
  • Own Discovery & Scoping engagements - translating ambiguous business asks into clear technical specifications and delivery plans.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen: understand ROI/AI impact, enterprise workflows, stakeholder management, and establish continuous product feedback loops with client stakeholders.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and communicate complex architecture decisions to both engineering and non-technical business audiences.
• Architecture & Development
  • Architect and build scalable, resilient full-stack applications using Java (Spring Boot/Spring Framework, Microservices) and/or Python (FastAPI/Flask), tailored to enterprise financial workflows.
  • Leverage Python for rapid prototyping, data analytics, pricing/risk calculations, and automation scripts where appropriate.
  • Apply strong data modeling and query optimization skills across Oracle Database, MS SQL Server, and MongoDB.
  • Ensure solutions are built with enterprise-grade security, auditability, and regulatory compliance across both Java and Python codebases.
• DevOps, CI/CD & Infrastructure
  • Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Tekton (Red Hat OpenShift Pipelines) and Jenkins to enable rapid, reliable, and auditable deployments for both Java and Python services.
  • Deploy and manage containerized workloads on OpenShift/Kubernetes, applying infrastructure-as-code best practices.
  • Be fluent in at least one major cloud platform and demonstrate the ability to deploy infrastructure as code reliably and repeatably.
  • Own production readiness: ensure what is built won't break or behave unexpectedly once live - including monitoring, alerting, rollback strategies, and incident response support.

  • Continuously improving delivery through tight feedback loops between engineering output and business outcomes.

Required Skills :

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with demonstrable experience as a Full-Stack Developer transitioning into an FDE-style, customer-facing delivery role.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java (Core Java, Spring Boot, Microservices architecture, REST/gRPC APIs) and/or strong production experience in Python (FastAPI/Flask, data processing libraries).
• Ability to work across both Java and Python codebases, or demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly on the second language.
• Hands-on experience with Tekton/OpenShift Pipelines and Jenkins for CI/CD pipeline design and management.
• Strong database expertise across Oracle Database, MS SQL Server, and MongoDB, including performance tuning and schema design.
• Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps practices: containerization (Docker/OpenShift/Kubernetes), infrastructure as code, and cloud deployment (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform - at least one).
• Excellent communication, technical writing, and stakeholder management skills; comfortable working directly with business stakeholders.
• High agency, ownership mindset, and comfort operating with ambiguity in fast-paced client-facing environments.

Preferred Skills :

• Monitoring/Observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/Splunk)
• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Python-based data science/quant tooling (Jupyter, scikit-learn) for analytics or pricing use cases
• Scripting/automation experience combining Java and Python within the same delivery pipeline
• Domain knowledge of Fintech, Capital Markets, or Spread Products - specifically Securitization (ABS, MBS).
• Prior experience as a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Consultant embedded within financial institutions.
• Experience using Python for quantitative analytics, pricing models, or ML-driven risk tooling alongside a Java-based production stack.
