Job Description

About the role

You will own the mechanical design on a live, safety-critical product programme, with the calls yours to make and the kit provided. This is a contract Mechanical Design Engineer role in Leamington Spa, on site, at £35 to £45 per hour outside IR35. Regulated hardware, a small team, quick decisions, and a defined two-month brief.

Why This Might Beat The Job You Have Now

  • The design work is yours. Small team, no committee, no queue behind three other engineers waiting on a decision.
  • A clean outside IR35 contract with the determination already done, so you know where you stand from day one.
  • All the kit provided, including a secure laptop, so you start on the work rather than setting yourself up.
  • Precision, regulated hardware where the detail genuinely matters, not throwaway work.

What You Will Own

As the contract Mechanical Design Engineer you pick up live design work and carry it properly, start to finish.

  • Detailed 3D modelling in SolidWorks, from single components to full assemblies.
  • Tolerance analysis and stack-ups on precision, safety-critical parts.
  • Technical drawings to GD&T, clear enough to manufacture from without a second guess.
  • Design for manufacture of plastic parts, with injection moulding in mind.
  • Design documentation and test work that stands up to a regulated review.

What You Will Need

A short, honest list for this Mechanical Design Engineer contract.

  • Solid mechanical design engineering experience, with current, confident SolidWorks.
  • A background in a regulated, precision sector such as aerospace, medical devices or plastics product design.
  • A track record of working to ISO requirements and following a defined process.

Handy but not essential, drug delivery or other safety-critical device experience, and design for manufacture of injection-moulded parts.

Salary And Benefits

  • £35 to £45 per hour, outside IR35.
  • Two-month contract.
  • All equipment provided, including a secure laptop.
  • Standard hours 8.30am to 5pm with flexibility, and an earlier finish on Fridays.
  • On site, embedded with the engineering team.

About The Client

The client is a small engineering team building regulated, safety-critical hardware in Leamington Spa. The work is hands-on and fast, closer to a scale-up than a large corporate, and the engineering standard is high because the products have to be exact. This contract Mechanical Design Engineer role sits in that team for a defined project, alongside a senior engineer. Kodu is running the search, so you deal with a specialist who knows the brief.
