Job Description
Every City and County of San Francisco department has permanent employees who have gone through a Civil Service Exam Process to uphold our merit-based hiring system. Many of those exams are proctored by Testing Technicians. Our Human Resources Analysts rely on Testing Technicians to assist with running the selection procedures in a consistent and efficient manner. The Testing Technicians are responsible for technical, clerical, and administrative duties in exam administration.
1.
Administers written and performance tests in traditional or computerized testing environments, including but not limited to: preparing test materials and arranging facilities prior to exams, distributing test materials, providing instructions to administer tests, and answering general questions.
2. Maintains security of the test materials before the exam, prevents candidates from taking test materials, and gathers and accounts for all test materials after the exam. Directs proctors in securing test materials and environment.
Checks and packages examination materials, and ensures that they are returned to designated areas.
3. Requests and inspects identification cards to ascertain that only authorized persons are admitted to tests; and directs and seats candidates in proper places.

Monitors the examination area to ensure that candidates are following test instructions, to provide necessary pencils/tools to enable them to complete tests, and to prevent cheating by other candidates or by using references not allowed; instructs proctors in their assignments; maintains order in the exam room; and keeps track of the time.
5. Reports and documents unusual incidents that occurred during the examination.
6. Performs scoring, prepares score sheets for scanning, and enters information into the computerized database.

Assists in the training, monitoring, and evaluation of proctors such as student workers and personnel staff.
8. Responds to inquiries from various individuals such as faculty, staff, students, candidates, and the general public.
9. Performs clerical functions to assist in preparing for, administering, and scoring examinations, preparing eligible lists and notifying candidates of exam processes and results.
10. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Nature of Work - this position may entail:
Lifting of testing materials up to 40 pounds.
Standing and/or walking around for up to 3 hours at a time. Being available nights and/or weekends. We're looking for someone who:

Qualifications
Education and Experience
One year of verifiable clerical experience;
OR
One year of verifiable customer service experience;
OR
30 semester units of coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR
An equivalent combination of training, experience or education.

Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of computers, scanners, projectors, digital recorders, MP3 players, etc.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a large and diverse group of people.
Ability to speak in front of a large group of people (up to 250).
