Job Description

Job Title: Data Architect (Snowflake & DBT)

Location: Chicago, IL

About the Role:

  • We are seeking a skilled Data Architect with deep expertise in cloud data warehousing, particularly with Snowflake, and experience building robust data transformation pipelines using DBT (Data Build Tool).
  • The ideal candidate will design scalable data architectures, implement best practices for data modelling, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality, accessibility, and security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and implement scalable, high-performance data solutions using Snowflake and the cloud (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform).
  • Design and maintain data models (star/snowflake schemas, data vault, etc.) and data pipelines leveraging DBT.
  • Develop, optimize, and document ELT/ETL workflows, ensuring adherence to best practices in data transformation and governance.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Analysts, and Business Stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver end-to-end data solutions.
  • Establish and enforce data quality, integrity, and security standards.
  • Monitor and optimize Snowflake performance, costs, and resource utilization.
  • Advise on data architecture strategy, new tools, and process improvements.
  • Mentor and guide junior data engineers and analysts on data modelling, transformation, and Snowflake/DBT best practices.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in cloud data warehousing, data modelling, and analytics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 12+ years of overall work experience and 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or similar roles.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in Snowflake (data warehouse design, query optimization, security, data sharing, etc.).
  • Proficient in DBT (developing models, tests, documentation, deployment, etc.).
  • Solid experience with ELT/ETL solutions and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Prefect).
  • Proficient in SQL; experience with Python is a plus.
  • Experience with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling techniques and best practices for analytics.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with additional cloud data platforms (e.g., Big Query, Redshift).
  • Familiar with data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools and practices for data pipelines.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
