Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Software Engineer to support the migration of three legacy applications as part of a larger co-design initiative.

This role combines legacy Java application and database migration expertise with modern Agentic Development Capabilities and ADK (Agent Development Kit) to accelerate code analysis, transformation, testing, and migration workflows.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Java, Sybase, DB2, application modernization, and database migration, along with practical experience using AI/agent-based development tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Migrate three legacy applications from Java/Sybase/DB2 stacks to the target architecture within the defined engagement timeline.
• Analyze existing Java application logic, database schemas, data models, stored procedures, and system dependencies.
• Develop and execute migration strategies for Sybase and DB2 databases.
• Apply Agentic Development Capabilities and ADK (Agent Development Kit) to support and accelerate migration workflows, including:
• Code analysis
• Code transformation
• Migration planning
• Automated testing assistance
• Dependency analysis
• Identify and resolve compatibility issues between legacy database technologies and the target platform.
• Collaborate with the broader co-design team to establish reusable migration patterns, tools, and approaches.
• Document migration decisions, technical patterns, challenges, and lessons learned.
• Develop, test, troubleshoot, and deliver production-ready migration solutions within a short engagement timeline.
• Contribute to application modernization and legacy technology transformation initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on Java development experience, particularly with legacy enterprise applications.
• Strong experience with Sybase and DB2, including:
• Database schemas
• SQL queries
• Stored procedures
• Data migration
• Database dependencies
• Hands-on experience with Agentic Development Capabilities and ADK (Agent Development Kit).
• Experience using AI agents for code analysis, code migration, transformation, testing, or software development workflows.
• Proven experience with application modernization, legacy application migration, or database migration projects.
• Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality results within a short-term, deadline-driven engagement.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, architecture, and co-design teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience working in short-term consulting or engagement-based projects.
• Experience with legacy-to-cloud migration.
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform AI and agent technologies, including:
• Vertex AI
• LangChain
• AgentSpace
• Experience with AI-assisted software engineering or modernization tools.
• Knowledge of modern cloud-native application architectures.
