International Tax Manager

Job DescriptionInternational Tax Manager / Senior Manager\n$130k to $160k + bonus | Chicago | Hybrid\n\nWhat if your next International Tax role wasn’t joining an established team, but helping build one?\n\nI’m working with the Founder of a growing, cloud first CPA firm in downtown Chicago who is making his first permanent hire.\n\nThe firm specializes in supporting international businesses setting up and operating in the US, with a large proportion of clients coming from France.

Many are interesting, growing businesses across tech, AI and biotech that are establishing a US subsidiary and need someone to help them navigate the tax and accounting requirements that come with it.\n\nThey’re looking for an International Tax Manager or Senior Manager who can step in and add value from day one.\n\nThe work will primarily focus on inbound international tax compliance, including:\n\n Forms 1120, 5471 and 5472\n GILTI\n FBAR\n Multi state compliance\n Supporting foreign owned US entities\n\n\nBut this is much bigger than coming in and managing a portfolio of compliance work.\nYou’ll work directly with the Founder and directly with clients, joining early enough to genuinely influence what the firm becomes.

They want to build a modern, tech driven CPA firm, and as the first hire you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the team, the way they work and eventually hire people around you.\n\nThe firm is already experiencing strong growth. The plan over the next 12 months is to continue building the team, add more junior support and potentially acquire another CPA firm.\n\nLonger term, the Founder wants this person to grow with the business. Ideally that means progressing from Manager to Senior Manager and Director, with the potential to become his right hand over the next 5 or 6 years.

There could also be an opportunity for equity as the firm develops.\n\nThe trade off for getting in this early is that you need to be hands on.\n\nThey need someone who can confidently speak with clients, understand what they need and bring value, but who is equally comfortable getting into the work themselves and helping with whatever needs doing while the team is still small.\n\nThat’s why they’re open on level.

They could look at somebody more senior, providing you’re happy being hands on initially rather than coming from a role where you’re now predominantly reviewing other people’s work.\n\nCPA is prefered at Manager level\n\nSome accounting experience would be useful given the nature of the client base, but it isn’t a deal breaker.\n\nSalary: $130k to $160k plus + bonus, with some flexibility for the right person\nLocation: Downtown Chicago\nHybrid: Ideally 2 to 3 days per week in the office\nPTO: Generous PTO offering\n\nYou must be authorized to work in the US now and in the future without sponsorship.\nFor someone who enjoys International Tax but wants more ownership over where their career goes, this is a chance to join early enough that you’re not just stepping into somebody else’s structure.
