Sr. Automation Engineer

The Sr. Engineer - Automation will participate in all phases of development, from design and implementation through testing and production support. The role will focus heavily on Python-based application development, RESTful services, automation, cloud security, and secrets management while following engineering best practices for reliability, resiliency, security, performance, and reusability.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5-7 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, testing, and implementing large-scale applications.
• 5+ years of Python development experience.
• Strong proficiency with FastAPI.
• 5+ years of experience developing and supporting RESTful web services/APIs.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following:
  • HashiCorp Vault
  • AWS Secrets Management / AWS Secrets Manager
  • Azure Key Vault
• Experience with both front-end and back-end development.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software engineering principles.
• Ability to write, test, and document technical solutions according to organizational standards.

Desired Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience with React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• 3+ years of experience with Terraform and HashiCorp Vault.
• 3+ years of experience with Git and GitHub.
• Experience working with Windows and Linux operating systems, including shell scripting.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, ORM/persistence frameworks, and query performance tuning.
• Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with automated testing, observability, instrumentation, and production support.
• Experience identifying and remediating security vulnerabilities and potential attack surfaces.
• Experience designing reusable, scalable, and maintainable systems.
• Experience performing root cause analysis and implementing solutions to improve reliability, resiliency, security, and performance.
• Experience mentoring junior or less-experienced engineers.

What You Will Be Doing

• Design, develop, test, document, and maintain scalable software applications and automation solutions.
• Develop and maintain Python-based applications and RESTful APIs using FastAPI.
• Design and implement secure solutions involving secrets management and cloud security.
• Lead implementation of significant capabilities within existing systems.
• Develop automated tests and instrumentation to ensure application reliability, availability, latency, and performance targets.
• Conduct root cause analysis and identify opportunities for system and process improvements.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and potential attack surfaces and help implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Promote reusable components, frameworks, and engineering best practices.
• Break down complex technical requirements into maintainable implementations.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and technology teams.
• Mentor team members and help improve engineering practices and technical capabilities.

Work Arrangement

• Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week, typically Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
