Job Description

Senior User Researcher (SC Cleared)

£450 per day | Outside IR35 | Remote with occasional travel | Active SC Clearance Required

We're looking for an experienced User Researcher with strong GDS and User-Centred Design (UCD) expertise to join a high-performing delivery team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on ownership, works proactively with minimal direction, and can confidently shape and drive user research activities across complex programmes.

You'll be joining a collaborative environment where pragmatism is valued. We need someone who understands when a rapid evidence-based approach is appropriate and when a deeper research engagement is required.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, design and deliver user research activities throughout the delivery life cycle
  • Generate actionable insights that influence service design and decision-making
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including designers, business analysts, product managers and delivery managers
  • Facilitate workshops, playback sessions and stakeholder engagements
  • Translate research findings into clear recommendations and presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Champion user-centred design principles and best practice across teams
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and foster engagement across the wider delivery community

Essential Skills & Experience
  • Active SC Clearance
  • Strong experience as a User Researcher within Agile delivery environments
  • Excellent knowledge of GDS standards and assessment processes
  • Proven experience applying User-Centred Design methodologies
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of research activities
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience producing high-quality reports, presentations and research outputs
  • Comfortable balancing pace, pragmatism and research rigour
  • Experience planning and conducting a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Strong facilitation and workshop skills
  • High levels of energy, initiative and collaboration

Desirable
  • Experience working on large-scale public sector transformation programmes
  • Experience supporting digital services through discovery, Alpha, beta and live phases
  • Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design principles

Contract Details
  • £450 per day
  • Outside IR35
  • Remote-first engagement
  • Typically 1-2 days per month onsite, with occasional workshops or stakeholder sessions as required
  • Active SC Clearance required
