Job Summary

We are looking for a Controls Software Engineer to support a next-generation material handling controls platform for a large-scale robotics and automation environment.

The engineer will develop and maintain reusable controls software using CODESYS or TwinCAT, IEC 61131-3 Structured Text, Linux-based industrial PCs, Git, and object-oriented programming concepts.

This is a software-focused controls role involving greenfield development, reusable control components, state-machine architecture, debugging, testing, and deployment of controls applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop PLC/control software using IEC 61131-3 Structured Text (ST).
  • Develop CODESYS V3 function blocks and reusable control components.
  • Apply object-oriented programming concepts including interfaces, methods, properties, encapsulation, and reusable software architecture.
  • Design control logic using state machines with clear transitions, fault handling, recovery, start/stop, and emergency-stop behavior.
  • Develop modular software components that can be reused across multiple material-handling systems.
  • Work with Linux-based industrial PCs and controls environments.
  • Use Git for source control, branching, code reviews, and collaborative software development.
  • Debug and troubleshoot controls applications and determine the root cause of software/hardware behavior.
  • Configure and test controls applications based on electrical drawings and system requirements.
  • Write and review technical requirements before beginning development.
  • Test software on physical automation hardware and troubleshoot issues identified during testing.
  • Collaborate with controls, software, electrical, and automation engineers through code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Support deployment activities and provide troubleshooting assistance as systems are brought online.

Required Skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Structured Text (ST).
  • CODESYS experience OR strong TwinCAT experience.
  • Strong PLC/control software development background.
  • Experience with Linux in an industrial, embedded, automation, or controls environment.
  • Experience using Git and software-development practices such as code reviews and version control.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Experience designing state machines and fault-handling logic.
  • Experience developing reusable/modular controls software.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with hardware and software together and troubleshoot system-level issues.
