Location: Bolton
Salary: Circa £55,000 depending on experience
Working Pattern: Hybrid working – 2 days per week onsite

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Data Engineer to join a leading defence engineering organisation, helping to develop and deliver advanced data solutions across a wide range of business and engineering functions.

This role offers the opportunity to transform complex data from engineering systems, simulations, manufacturing operations and business platforms into reliable, accessible and valuable insights. You'll play a key role in designing scalable data infrastructure, developing analytics capabilities and ensuring data is managed securely and effectively within a highly technical environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Design and deliver end-to-end data engineering solutions, working closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to understand their requirements
• Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines to integrate information from engineering, simulation, manufacturing and enterprise systems
• Design and implement data lakes, warehouses and modern data platforms to support business intelligence and advanced analytics
• Build Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions to support performance monitoring, KPI tracking and business decision-making
• Establish and maintain data models, quality standards, governance processes and data lineage
• Ensure data solutions meet relevant security requirements and comply with applicable defence industry standards
• Improve data delivery through automation, monitoring, CI/CD pipelines and modern DataOps practices
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, production, quality, supply chain and wider business functions

What We're Looking For:
• Proven experience in data engineering, ideally within the defence, aerospace or industrial sectors
• Strong Python and SQL programming skills, with experience developing and maintaining data pipelines
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT technologies and data streaming tools such as Airflow, Azure, SSIS, Spark or Kafka
• Experience working with databases and data platforms such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake or similar technologies
• Knowledge of data visualisation tools, particularly Power BI, DAX or Tableau
• Understanding of data architecture, data governance, data quality and secure data management
• Experience with Git, Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD practices would be advantageous
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer to take on a technically challenging role, delivering innovative data solutions that support complex engineering programmes within the defence sector.
