Job Description

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, built to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. Our products help people make powerful connections, discover exciting opportunities, build necessary skills, and gain valuable insights every day. We’re also committed to providing transformational opportunities for our own employees by investing in their growth. We aspire to create a culture that’s built on trust, care, inclusion, and fun – where everyone can succeed.

Join us to transform the way the world works.

At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

LinkedIn operates one of the largest privately managed compute infrastructures in the world outside of the public cloud providers. As a Senior Engineering Manager on the Compute Infrastructure team, you will lead a critical area of the organization responsible for shaping and evolving the foundational compute platform that powers LinkedIn’s global products, business, and AI-first future.

LinkedIn’s Compute Infrastructure stack serves as our internal private cloud, supporting everything from the real-time services behind products serving over a billion members, to large-scale data and analytics pipelines processing petabytes daily, to the AI/ML infrastructure powering recommendations, search relevance, and generative AI at scale. The platform is deeply Kubernetes-centric and purpose-built to meet LinkedIn’s unique challenges around scale, reliability, performance, efficiency, and rapidly growing AI compute demands.

As part of our world-class software engineering organization, you will set the vision and multi-year strategy for key areas of LinkedIn’s next-generation compute infrastructure. You will lead teams building and operating highly distributed systems at massive scale, bringing a strong systems orientation across areas such as distributed systems, concurrency, scalability, performance, resource management, and API design. Your organization will leverage and contribute to modern cloud-native technologies such as Kubernetes and gRPC while solving infrastructure challenges at a scale and level of complexity few engineering organizations encounter.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead and grow a high-performing organization of infrastructure engineers and engineering leaders, setting priorities and driving execution across complex, multi-year initiatives. You will make critical architectural and investment trade-offs across reliability, scalability, efficiency, developer velocity, and long-term platform health.

You will also play a key role in developing engineering leaders, raising the bar for technical and operational excellence, and building an inclusive, high-performing organization capable of delivering foundational infrastructure with company-wide impact.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and scale a multi-team organization of engineers and engineering managers working on core infrastructure platforms.
  • Partner with senior and executive management to define, champion, and execute a long-term technology roadmap and vision for LinkedIn’s core infrastructure.
  • Drive deep technical and architectural discussions, challenge the status quo, and steer complex cross-functional directions to push the envelope of system performance.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with executive stakeholders across engineering, product, and business leadership to align organizational goals.
  • Scale the organization by setting clear expectations, openly evaluating performance, upholding high accountability, and actively coaching future leaders (managers and principal/staff engineers) to stretch their skills.
  • Drive a culture of operational excellence and architectural rigor. Lead the organization into defining performance goals and metrics, and build the infrastructure necessary to maintain a world-class quality bar and detect issues in real time.
  • Create an inclusive work environment that fosters autonomy, transparency, innovation, and learning across multiple teams, while holding an elite bar for engineering quality.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering/technical management and people management.
  • 7+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and large-scale software engineering
  • Experience programming in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages(like Java/CPP/Scala/etc.)
  • Hands on experience developing distributed systems, databases, large scale data systems and/or Backend API's

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 4+ years of software engineering management experience
  • 2+ years exp managing managers

Suggested Skills

  • Technical Leadership
  • People Management
  • Stakeholder Management
