Position Summary
Cache Valley Electric is seeking an experienced General Foreman to provide field leadership on large-scale data center and mission-critical technology infrastructure projects.
The General Foreman will oversee crews performing fiber optic, structured cabling, and low-voltage infrastructure installations while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with project specifications and CVE quality standards.
This position requires a strong background in fiber optic installation and termination, structured cabling, crew leadership, production planning, testing, troubleshooting, and large-scale mission-critical construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day field leadership for fiber optic, structured cabling, and teledata installation crews on large-scale mission-critical projects.
- Lead and coordinate Foremen, Lead Technicians, Fiber Technicians, and other field personnel.
- Plan daily and weekly manpower, production goals, work areas, material requirements, and installation activities.
- Coordinate installation of fiber optic backbone, horizontal cabling, copper cabling, pathways, racks, cabinets, ladder rack, cable tray, and related telecommunications infrastructure.
- Oversee fiber pulling, routing, dressing, splicing, termination, labeling, testing, and documentation.
- Ensure installations meet project drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements, applicable codes, and customer standards.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, telecommunications plans, specifications, riser diagrams, details, and installation documentation.
- Coordinate closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, General Contractors, other trades, and customer representatives.
- Monitor field productivity, manpower utilization, schedule performance, and installation progress.
- Identify potential schedule, manpower, material, or constructability issues and communicate them to project leadership.
- Ensure crews have the tools, materials, equipment, information, and access required to maintain production.
- Conduct daily planning meetings, toolbox talks, and crew assignments.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety and ensure compliance with CVE, customer, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Perform quality-control inspections and ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly.
- Oversee fiber testing and certification, including review of test results and documentation.
- Support troubleshooting of fiber optic and structured cabling systems.
- Track completed work, quantities, manpower, and production against project goals.
- Coordinate material staging, deliveries, equipment, and work-area readiness.
- Assist with redlines, as-built drawings, test documentation, turnover packages, and project closeout.
- Mentor and develop Foremen, Lead Technicians, and field personnel.
- Maintain professional communication with project leadership, customers, and other trades.
- Promote a culture of accountability, safety, quality, teamwork, and productivity.
- 4+ years of experience in telecommunications, structured cabling, fiber optics, low-voltage construction, or a related field.
- 3+ years of field leadership experience as a Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, or similar position.
- Strong experience working on large-scale data center, mission-critical, industrial, or similarly complex construction projects.
- Advanced knowledge of fiber optic installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of single-mode and multimode fiber optic systems.
- Experience with high-density fiber infrastructure and large fiber-count installations.
- Experience with structured cabling systems, telecommunications rooms, racks, cabinets, pathways, and cable-management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, telecommunications plans, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multiple crews and coordinate manpower across multiple work areas.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, production tracking, and field planning.
- Ability to identify installation conflicts and coordinate solutions with project leadership and other trades.
- Strong knowledge of construction and jobsite safety requirements.
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and meet aggressive project schedules.
- Ability to travel or work on project assignments as required.
