Job Description

Job Title: Senior OpenShift Virtualization Administrator
Location: Washington, DC
Type: Contract
Compensation: $64.25 - $78.00 per hour
Work Model: Hybrid – onsite and remote
Hours: 40.0 hours per week
Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise virtualization operations on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization (Container-native Virtualization / KubeVirt) in support of the SEC ISS contract and SEC OIT infrastructure mission.
  • Manage the design, administration, and continuous optimization of OpenShift Virtualization to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing virtual machine services.
  • Support 24x7x365 operational readiness, incident response, and coordination with the Enterprise Operations Center and infrastructure teams.
  • Lead the migration from VMware to OpenShift Virtualization, executing migration waves using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV / Forklift).
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain the OpenShift Virtualization operator, KubeVirt components, CDI, and related cluster services.
  • Manage full VM lifecycle operations, including provisioning, live migration, cloning, snapshots, patching, and decommissioning.
  • Configure VM networking and storage to meet SEC performance and availability requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across OpenShift cluster and VM guest layers.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, and capacity; coordinate incident resolution in a 24x7 environment.
  • Lead technical teams supporting daily operations and migration execution.
  • Enforce security and compliance standards, including FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST guidelines.
  • Plan and execute VMware-to-OpenShift migrations, including network and storage mapping, cutover, and validation.
  • Apply GitOps and infrastructure-as-code patterns to VM and cluster configurations.
  • Maintain technical documentation including platform configurations, migration records, and recovery procedures.

Requirements

  • ship and ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Virtualization (EX316) or equivalent; VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) accepted with commitment to obtain EX316 post-hire.
  • 9+ years supporting server virtualization in enterprise environments, including experience with OpenShift Virtualization / KubeVirt or similar platforms.
  • Proven leadership experience managing virtualization teams and supporting system operations.
  • Hands-on experience administering Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across OpenShift and virtual machine layers.
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience executing VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualization migrations using MTV / Forklift.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) on RHEL 9.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
  • Training in OpenShift and Ansible Automation (DO180, DO280, DO380).
  • Experience with Argo CD / OpenShift GitOps and Ceph storage administration.
  • Support experience in federal civilian agency operations under SLA and governance frameworks.
  • Support for hybrid cloud/on-premises environments.
  • ITIL 4 Foundation or comparable service management certification.

Work Environment / Other
Operational Support: May require participation in on-call or surge activities based on operational needs.
