Electrical Engineer – Building Maintenance
Location: Durham, DH6
Job Type: Temp to Perm | Full-Time
Salary: £39,000 per annum once permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:30am – 3:30pm
The Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their facilities and maintenance team at a large industrial building in Durham.
The role will focus on building services and facilities maintenance, rather than machinery or production equipment. You'll be responsible for carrying out both reactive and planned electrical maintenance across the site, ensuring the building and its electrical systems remain safe, compliant and fully operational.
This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the chance to secure a long-term permanent position with an established organisation.

The Role
As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day electrical maintenance of the building and associated facilities.
Your duties will include:

Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
-
Responding to reactive electrical maintenance issues
-
Diagnosing electrical faults and carrying out repairs
-
Maintaining electrical systems and building services
-
Carrying out lighting repairs and replacements
-
Maintaining sockets, switches, distribution boards and other electrical infrastructure

Supporting general building maintenance where required

Ensuring all works are completed safely and to a high standard

Completing maintenance records and reporting any issues identified

Working in line with health & safety procedures and site requirements
This role is focused on building maintenance and electrical infrastructure rather than machinery, production equipment or industrial electrical engineering.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
-
Previous experience as an Electrical Engineer / Electrician
-
Experience within commercial, industrial or facilities/building maintenance
-
Good knowledge of electrical building services
-
Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance
-
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
-
Ability to work independently and manage day-to-day maintenance requirements

Good communication and organisational skills
-
Relevant electrical qualifications, ideally 18th Edition

A recognised electrical qualification such as NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds
