Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 09.00 - 17.00 36.25 hours per week

This role supports the SMF16 holder and is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the Compliance function within the agreed delegation, governance, and risk management framework.
The role provides leadership and oversight of Compliance Advisory and Compliance Monitoring leadership, together with other compliance colleagues as assigned The position ensures the effective delivery of compliance activities, provides expert regulatory guidance to the business, and supports the maintenance of a strong compliance culture across the organisation.

As Head of Compliance at Tandem your focus will be on the following:
Motor Finance Redress Programme
- Provide independent second-line oversight, constructive challenge and assurance across the programme lifecycle.
- Assess programme governance, redress methodology, customer segmentation, controls, data quality, communications and delivery outcomes.
- Ensure Consumer Duty, conduct risk, vulnerable customer and regulatory expectations are embedded in programme decisions and execution.
- Provide clear assurance reporting to the CRO/SMF16 holder, Executive and Board committees, escalating material risks or weaknesses promptly.
- Support transparent and well-controlled engagement with the FCA and other relevant stakeholders.
Compliance Leadership
- Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing Compliance function.
- Shape and deliver the Compliance strategy, monitoring plan and assurance priorities.
- Promote a culture of integrity, accountability and customer focus.
Regulatory Advice and Business Partnership
- Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice on FCA requirements, Consumer Duty, SMCR and conduct risk.
- Support products, strategic change and transformation while maintaining appropriate regulatory standards.
- Translate regulatory developments into clear, practical business actions.
Oversight and Assurance
- Own delivery of risk-based compliance monitoring and thematic reviews.
- Provide independent insight and challenge on regulatory and conduct risks.
- Assess the effectiveness of key controls and oversee timely remediation of findings.
- Identify and escalate emerging risks, breaches and material control weaknesses.
Governance and Regulatory Engagement
- Deliver concise, decision-useful reporting to senior management and governance committees.
- Support the SMF16 holder in regulatory engagement, reviews and information requests.
- Build trusted relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders.
Regulatory Change and Consumer Outcomes
- Lead horizon scanning and coordinate proportionate responses to regulatory change.
- Oversee the ongoing embedding of Consumer Duty and delivery of good customer outcomes.
- Ensure the needs of vulnerable customers are considered throughout products, services and remediation activity.
- Use data and insight to strengthen early identification of regulatory and conduct risk.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Significant senior compliance leadership experience in UK regulated financial services.
- Strong knowledge of FCA regulation, Consumer Duty, SMCR and conduct risk management.
- Experience overseeing complex remediation, redress or other high-profile regulatory programmes.
- Credibility with Executive and Board stakeholders and experience supporting regulatory engagement.
- Strong judgement, independence, commercial awareness, and delivery focus.
- Ability to move quickly, prioritise effectively and create impact within a fixed-term assignment.
It would be great, but not essential if you have:
- Motor finance, consumer credit, retail banking, mortgages, savings or specialist lending experience.
- Experience in a PRA-regulated firm or complex financial services group.
- Previous SMF approval or direct experience supporting an SMF16 holder.
- Relevant legal, compliance or risk qualification.
- Third party oversight frameworks
