Job Description

Position: Information Security Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL – Remote
Engagement: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire
Contract Rate: $50/hr W2 or $55/hr 1099
Conversion Salary: $120K/year 

Role Overview
The Information Security Engineer will join a Cybersecurity Engineering team supporting the organization’s Vulnerability Management and Threat Management programs. The role will focus heavily on SaaS security, vulnerability/exposure management, threat analysis, application security, and attack surface management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess SaaS security exposures, including misconfigurations, permission sprawl, insecure integrations, and identity-related risks.
  • Analyze security findings and vendor advisories and prioritize remediation based on exposure, exploitability, and business impact.
  • Track security risks, remediation activities, POA&Ms, exceptions, and security posture trends.
  • Develop and maintain SaaS security configuration baselines and hardening standards aligned with CIS, NIST CSF, and other applicable frameworks.
  • Partner with SaaS application owners, IAM, GRC, enterprise teams, and business stakeholders to drive remediation.
  • Conduct SaaS security posture assessments across the enterprise application portfolio.
  • Participate in threat modeling and risk assessment activities.
  • Support vulnerability management policies, standards, processes, and TTPs.
  • Leverage AI tools and prompt engineering to automate security processes and assist with data analysis.
  • Support initiatives involving CTEM, SaaS Attack Surface Management, ITDR, and Zero Trust.
  • Assist with cybersecurity tool evaluation, implementation, and operational support.
  • Communicate security risks, remediation recommendations, and posture updates to technical and business stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of cybersecurity experience, including at least 3 years focused on vulnerability management, compliance validation, or threat analysis.
  • CISSP, CASP+, GSLC, or equivalent security certification.
  • Experience working across Windows, macOS, Linux, Cisco IOS, or similar environments.
  • Hands-on experience with SSPM, CASB, IAM, or SaaS vulnerability/security tools, such as:
    • Wiz
    • Microsoft Defender
    • Netskope
    • Microsoft Entra ID
    • Okta
  • Experience with risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Understanding of networking, infrastructure, application, and information security concepts.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering and AI tools for security automation and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to lead cybersecurity engineering initiatives in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred
  • Power BI, Power Automate, or Generative AI experience.
  • CIS, NIST, PCI DSS, or similar cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Azure/AWS security experience.
  • Incident response and disaster recovery exposure.
  • DevSecOps and secure software development experience.
  • Business Intelligence / Business Efficiency / Generative AI experience
