APS6 System Administrator / Systems Accountant

Our client is a small statutory authority with a strong emphasis on regulation, located on Canberra's northside. They operate within the portfolio of a highly regarded Federal Government department.

The Opportunity

This role sits in a two-person financial systems team made up of an APS6 and an EL1.

As the APS6, you will be the day-to-day owner of the agency's TechnologyOne finance system and the go-to person for the interfaces that connect it to the agency's other operational systems.

The position is offered as a 12-month non-ongoing contract, with the possibility of extension or permanency.

• Real ownership of a TechnologyOne environment, working directly with the EL1 rather than through layers of management


• Variety across the full finance system: configuration, interfaces, reporting, helpdesk, enhancements and month-end processes


• A practical route into finance systems for accountants, with reconciliations and management reporting giving you familiar ground to build from


• The chance to design and deliver training for system users and shape the procedures that govern the finance system


• A contract with a clear possibility of extension or permanency

The Role

You will keep the agency's finance system running accurately and make it work better for the people who use it.

• Administer the agency's TechnologyOne finance system, including system enhancements and fixes


• Manage the daily interfaces between the finance system and other business systems, resolving issues as they arise


• Generate general purpose and specific purpose financial reports from the system


• Provide a helpdesk service for finance system users across the agency


• Undertake month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations within the finance system to maintain data integrity


• Assist with administration of the Expense8 travel and credit card system, and advise staff on domestic travel and credit card matters


• Develop and deliver training for finance system users


• Contribute to policy instructions and operational procedures for the finance system and its interfaces


• Assist with monthly management reporting, applying your accounting understanding of the information recorded in the system

The Ideal Person

You understand both the accounting and the system: what a reconciliation needs to show, and how to work out why the system isn't showing it.

Experienced finance system administrators will suit this role, and so will accountants with solid systems exposure who want to move into a dedicated systems role.

• Experience working in or with a financial management information system, with TechnologyOne administration experience highly regarded


• Strong analytical skills with financial information, including reconciliations and month-end and year-end processes


• The ability to produce and interpret financial reports, drawing on a sound understanding of accounting


• Clear communication and liaison skills, including explaining system issues to non-finance staff and delivering training


• Sound judgement and the confidence to work independently with limited instruction


• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance

Desirable:

• Experience with Expense8 or a similar travel and credit card system


• Experience developing system enhancements or managing interfaces between systems

Salary

• $100k - $110k + 15.4% Super


• 12-month non-ongoing contract, with the possibility of extension or permanency


• Based on Canberra's northside, with hybrid working of 2 days a week from home


• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance are required
