Job Description

Position :  Automation Controls Engineer (Atlas Copco)
Location : Decatur, IL (100% Onsite)
Duration: Contract
 
Visa: All US valid visas will work
 
We are seeking an experienced contractor to support programming, commissioning, and optimization of Atlas Copco Power Focus 8 (PF8) torque controllers at our manufacturing facility in Decatur.
Responsibilities:
  • Configure, program, and commission Atlas Copco PF8 controllers.
  • Develop and validate tightening strategies, PSETs, jobs, and multi-step fastening sequences.
  • Perform Advanced Tool Programming (ATP) configuration and optimization.
  • Configure and support Reject Management functionality, including repair/rework workflows and traceability requirements.
  • Integrate torque systems with PLCs, barcode scanners, MES, and plant networks.
  • Troubleshoot controller, tool, communication, and process-related issues.
  • Support runoff, launch activities, operator training, and production startup.
  • Document controller configurations, process settings, and troubleshooting procedures.
Required Qualifications:
  • Proven hands-on experience with Atlas Copco Power Focus controllers, preferably PF8.
  • Strong understanding of torque-controlled assembly processes and fastening applications.
  • Experience with Advanced Tool Programming (ATP) and Reject Management software.
  • Ability to create and modify tightening strategies, jobs, and error-proofing logic.
  • Experience with industrial communications and manufacturing system integration.
  • Ability to work independently with Manufacturing Engineering, Controls Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Automotive or high-volume manufacturing experience.
  • Launch, commissioning, and production support experience.
  • Knowledge of torque traceability, quality systems, and error-proofing methodologies.
