The Data Warehouse Platforms Engineering Shared Services & Software Development (DWSV) team is seeking a Cloud Software Engineer to join a large, complex product development environment. This role focuses on supporting all aspects of agile software design and development for products deployed across large-scale compute clusters. Responsibilities include designing and building new capabilities, conducting testing, optimizing performance, and supporting ongoing operations and sustainment.

As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer, you will operate with a high degree of independence across the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Design and implement scalable solutions, including integration and extension of COTS and GOTS products. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues while optimizing system performanceProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Contribute to project planning by defining tasks, timelines, and technical approaches.

Develop and execute test cases, create SOPs, and maintain technical documentation. Review system designs for accuracy, completeness, and scalability Provide cloud software research, development, and engineering services to include requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, sustainment, testing, validation, and issue diagnosis/resolution. Due to federal contract requirements, United States Citizenship and position appropriate security clearance is required. (e.g. Active TS/SCI security clearance with agency appropriate polygraph).

Capabilities

  • Designs, develops, and implements secure cloud-based solutions that support scalable, resilient, and mission-critical environments.
  • Responsible for architecting cloud infrastructure, developing detailed technical plans, and defining specifications to support the deployment of modern cloud platforms and services.
  • Collaborates closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements and develop specifications for new cloud[1]based products, services, applications, and enterprise solutions.
  • Leads the deployment and integration of cloud management platforms, continuously evaluating system performance and implementing enhancements to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Supports the development and expansion of a cloud services portfolio, including value-added capabilities that enhance enterprise infrastructure and mission support.
  • Develops solution recommendations and prepares Basis of Estimate (BOE) documentation for cloud initiatives.
  • Conducts cost-benefit analyses comparing cloud solutions with alternatives such as virtual private networks, dedicated hosting, or on-premises infrastructure to identify optimal deployment strategies and areas of highest return on investment.
  • Performs operations and maintenance of secure managed cloud platforms, ensuring system availability, performance, and compliance with security requirements.
  • Implements automation to improve operational efficiency, including monitoring, alerting, and automated remediation of system events.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains infrastructure as code (IaC) and leverages CI/CD pipelines to enable consistent, repeatable deployments and streamlined platform management. Required Qualifications
  • TS/SCI with agency appropriate poly
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field (e.g., Mathematics, Information Systems, Engineering).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, development, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • At least 6 years of experience developing in high-level languages such as Java, C, or C++.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in UNIX/Linux (RedHat-based) environments.
  • At least 3 years of experience in software integration and testing, including test plan and script development. Required Technical Skills
  • Strong Java development experience, including distributed systems, networking, and multithreading
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Ansible or Puppet
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing, deployment, and monitoring
  • Experience working in Agile environments with modern source control practices
  • Strong Linux fundamentals and proficiency in at least one scripting language (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby, or Perl)
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
  • Hadoop or Cloud Developer certification required
  • Willingness to participate in a rotating Tier III on-call schedule
  • Ability to support surge requirements during high-priority situations
  • Position is primarily onsite at the customer location; telework is limited and situational Desired Technical Skills
  • Experience with Apache Hadoop, Accumulo, and NiFi
  • Familiarity with MongoDB and messaging systems (e.g., ActiveMQ)
  • Experience with Spring Framework, Python, and Bash scripting
  • Knowledge of security and compliance best practices
  • Experience with AWS, hybrid cloud environments, and related cloud technologies
  • Required Certification (one of the following):
  • AWS Certified Developer – Associate
  • AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
  • Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
  • Possession of a Cloud certification is required and will be verified as part of the interview or offer process. The Benefits Package
