Job Description An innovative AI-powered software company is seeking an Engineering Manager, AI Development Platforms to lead a team focused on developer productivity, engineering automation, internal tooling, and AI-enhanced software delivery.
This is a player-coach leadership role that combines people management with meaningful hands-on engineering contribution. The successful candidate will lead a team of engineers while remaining deeply involved in architecture, platform design, automation initiatives, technical decision-making, and major engineering projects.

Location: Belmont, MA (Hybrid) Required Skills & Experience

• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• 2+ years of engineering management, team leadership, or technical leadership experience
• Strong hands-on background in backend software engineering
• Experience designing and building cloud-native applications and services
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized applications
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and infrastructure automation
• Proven experience leading major technical initiatives from architecture through production deployment
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Passion for improving engineering productivity through automation and tooling

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience leading Developer Experience, Developer Productivity, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, or DevOps teams
• Experience building internal developer tools and self-service engineering platforms
• Experience managing backend and infrastructure-focused engineers
• Experience implementing AI-assisted development tools and workflow automation
• Familiarity with LLM-powered developer tooling and agent-based development workflows
• Experience supporting high-frequency software releases
• Startup or high-growth technology company experience
• Experience working across distributed engineering teams

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on engineering productivity and AI-powered development platforms
• Remain hands-on by contributing to architecture, technical design, code reviews, automation initiatives, and critical engineering projects
• Partner with engineers to solve complex technical challenges across infrastructure, deployment, and developer tooling
• Build and enhance internal platforms that help engineers develop, test, deploy, and operate software more efficiently
• Drive improvements across CI/CD, observability, testing automation, and software delivery systems
• Evaluate and implement AI-powered development tools that improve engineering efficiency
• Establish technical standards and best practices across platform engineering and software delivery
• Lead major engineering initiatives from planning through production rollout
• Collaborate closely with engineering leadership on long-term platform strategy
• Help foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement

Leadership / Hands-On Mix

• Approximately 50% leadership, mentoring, and technical strategy
• Approximately 50% hands-on technical contribution, architecture, design reviews, and engineering initiatives
