Job Description

Akkodis is seeking an Exterior Lighting Design Engineer for a Contract with a client in Dearborn, MI (Hybrid). The ideal candidate is responsible for leading exterior lighting system integration, validating hardware and software interfaces, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable lighting solutions across vehicle programs.

Rate Range: $40/Hour to $42/Hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Exterior Lighting Design Engineer Job Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the design, development, and integration of exterior lighting systems including headlamps, taillamps, fog lamps, CHMSL, and license plate lamps.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to validate lighting system interfaces and ensure robust vehicle-level performance and manufacturability.
  • Review and approve CAD designs in Teamcenter, perform packaging studies, dimensional stack-ups, GD&T assessments, and technical analyses.
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation including DFMEAs, DVPRs, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, ESOWs, and Engineering Concepts.
  • Support software and hardware development activities, including embedded systems validation, CAN/LIN integration, PCB design reviews, and supplier technical oversight.
  • Drive issue resolution through root cause analysis, 8D/5-Why methodologies, corrective actions, and participation in design and technical review processes.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering discipline; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive lighting design, development, validation, or launch activities; 7+ years preferred.
  • Strong experience in exterior lighting systems engineering, including software development/testing, electrical integration, CAD tools (CATIA/3DX), and Teamcenter.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional system development, perform root cause analysis (8D/5-Why), manage supplier deliverables, and support hardware/software validation for automotive electronics modules.

Pay Details: $40.00 to $42.00 per hour
