Principal Transmission Line Engineer / Senior Transmission Line Engineer

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Transmission Line Engineer to lead the engineering and design management of high-voltage transmission line projects, including renewable energy and stand-alone transmission projects. This role will manage projects from early-stage development and conceptual design through engineering, construction, and commissioning. The position will oversee engineering consultants and ensure technical quality, project scope, cost, schedule, and delivery requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead transmission line engineering activities from project development through construction and commissioning.
• Define project scope, technical requirements, and engineering strategies with project and development teams.
• Develop scopes of work, evaluate proposals, and coordinate the selection of engineering and construction consultants.
• Coordinate route development, surveys, geotechnical investigations, LiDAR data, permitting, and other engineering requirements.
• Manage engineering deliverables, including Issued for Bid, Issued for Procurement, Issued for Construction, and As-Built drawings.
• Review design criteria, engineering documents, and technical deliverables to ensure quality and compliance.
• Support project cost estimates, proposals, and RFP development by providing technical scope and assumptions.
• Coordinate with engineering, construction, project management, permitting, supply chain, and other stakeholders.
• Identify technical risks, resolve engineering issues, and provide value-engineering recommendations.
• Present project status, risks, issues, and mitigation strategies to management and stakeholders.
• Ensure projects meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives.
• Travel within North America as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
• 7+ years of direct experience in the development, design, engineering, and construction of high-voltage transmission line projects.
• Strong knowledge of transmission line design, engineering, and construction practices.
• Ability to interpret one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan and profile drawings, and other engineering deliverables.
• Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience managing engineering consultants and coordinating multiple project stakeholders.
• Ability to provide practical value-engineering solutions and ensure design quality.
• Willingness to travel within North America.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Project Engineering and/or Project Management.
• P.E. and/or PMP certification is a plus.
• Experience with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, Primavera, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience supporting wind, solar, battery energy storage, or other renewable energy transmission projects.
• Knowledge of transmission line engineering standards, permitting, routing, and construction processes.
