Cybersecurity Data Engineer - Python/SQL/PowerBi/Security Analytics

Job Description A leading organization within a highly regulated cloud environment is seeking a Cybersecurity Data Engineer to support security analytics, continuous monitoring, and automation initiatives across enterprise and cloud platforms.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of cybersecurity, data engineering, and analytics. You'll leverage security telemetry, vulnerability data, and operational metrics to create meaningful insights, automate reporting processes, and improve overall security visibility. While the environment operates under regulatory requirements, the primary focus is on security data analysis, dashboard development, monitoring, and automation.
You will collaborate with security, engineering, and infrastructure teams to build scalable reporting solutions, develop security metrics, and enhance the organization's ability to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Location: Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid, 1 day onsite per week)
Contract: 6 Months with potential extension and conversion opportunity
Compensation: $40-$60/hour Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience in cybersecurity, security analytics, security operations, or a related field
• Strong Python development and automation experience
• Advanced SQL skills with experience querying and analyzing large datasets
• Experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI or similar BI platforms
• Experience working with security logs, alerts, telemetry, vulnerability data, and incident response information
• Experience with Microsoft Defender or similar security monitoring solutions
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud security concepts
• Understanding of security operations, threat monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response
• Experience with ETL processes, reporting workflows, and data analytics
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Desired Skills & Experience

• Experience working in a Blue Team or Security Operations Center (SOC) environment
• Experience developing security analytics and reporting solutions
• Familiarity with FedRAMP, NIST, or similar regulatory frameworks
• Experience automating security monitoring or reporting processes using Python or PowerShell
• Relevant cybersecurity certifications

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities: 100% Hands On

• Analyze security data from logs, vulnerability scans, monitoring platforms, and incident response activities
• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions
• Build automation tools and reporting processes using Python
• Write and optimize SQL queries to support investigations, metrics, and reporting needs
• Monitor security events and telemetry to identify trends, anomalies, and potential threats
• Support security operations through incident analysis and continuous monitoring activities
• Develop and track security KPIs and operational metrics
• Partner with security, engineering, and infrastructure teams to improve security visibility and reporting capabilities
• Support cloud security initiatives within Microsoft Azure environments
• Work with structured and semi-structured datasets including SQL, JSON, XML, and Excel
