Job Description
- Job Purpose: Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer
- To positively contribute to the Local Land Charges service in accordance with the aims, objectives, and priorities of the Council to agreed quality, performance standards and in a cost-effective manner.
- To maintain the Local Land Charges register.
- To process official Local Land Charges Searches and deal with additional enquiries.
- The role is hybrid, attendance at the office is required for fixed days each week. There may be times when it is expected for the post holder to travel outside of the Borough to deliver services on behalf of Barnet.

2.1 Grade E Level 1 Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer
- General Administrative tasks
- To update all in-house records as required relating to Local Land Charges, including but not restricted to updating the Local Land Charges Register.
- Undertake tasks to produce high level outputs, working efficiently across a wide range of activities.
- To assist in the provision of a customer focused service by providing excellent customer service to all clients and help build good relationships with them through the production of high-quality work and by acting in a professional manner.
- Manage non-complex customer issues/enquiries effectively and understand when to consult others, including professional officers and management.
- To support continuous improvement of procedures and processes with the service using best practice from others where appropriate.
- To communicate with other officers from the departments and other areas of the Council as appropriate to ensure that accurate and comprehensive information is given in reply to enquiries.
- To be available to answer the phone for customers, solicitors, organisations and colleagues and deal with ad hoc queries.
- To contribute to working as part of an effective team by acting as a buddy for new members of staff to help develop the team and demonstrate a flexible approach to covering a variety of duties and demands across the service.
- To complete personal searches accurately within the specified timescales.
- Taking payments for searches
- Maintaining the daily banking reconciliation spreadsheet
- To undertake appropriate training as directed by the Principal Local Land Charges Officer, and management, including courses, visiting other council departments and attending conferences.
- Grade F ? Level 2 (in addition to the above): Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer
- To process search enquiries and complete accurate and comprehensive official Local Land Charges searches within specified timescales and complying with the legislation.
- Reply to additional enquiries in a comprehensive manner using in-house software systems.
- To communicate with officers from the departments and other areas of the Council as appropriate to ensure that accurate and comprehensive information is given in reply to searches and enquiries.
- To employ new methods of operation, including developments in information technology as directed by management.
- To be aware of current national and local developments affecting the Local Land Charges.
- To correctly verify details of the Search on LLC1 and Con29 official forms.
Professional Membership/Qualification Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer
LLCI membership
Education to GCSE, O Level or equivalent.
Minimum 2 A Levels or equivalent and/or experience of working as part of a team
Experience & Knowledge Land Charges Officer
Experience of providing a high standard of customer service and undertaking detailed, intensive work in a busy administrative environment.
Essential
Application/Interview
Experience of contributing to the development of the planning database, GIS and other IT systems as appropriate.
Working knowledge of legislation relevant to complaints and information requests, including the Freedom of Information Act, Environmental Information Regulations, and Data Protection Act / UK GDPR (desirable)
Experience or willingness to learn administrative processes.
Experience of records management and producing accurate data and documents
Skill & Ability Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer Land Charges Officer
Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and negotiation skills
Ability to obtain and interpret information in order to effectively deliver an excellent service to the Councils customers, using a range of information systems.
Exceptional IT knowledge and proficient in MS Office and computer competent with the skills necessary to work with information management systems to produce good quality data in a variety of formats.
Ability to produce accurate, clear written responses
