Senior UC Engineer

Role Summary
This role provides hands-on engineering support for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of telephony infrastructure, primarily focused on Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity Connection, and related call processing servers. The position involves managing server lifecycle, capacity planning, performance tuning, and ensuring high availability of telephony services. It requires collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams to maintain a stable and scalable telephony environment.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Cisco CUCM, Cisco Unity Connection, and associated call processing servers.
• Perform server builds, operating system patching, and platform upgrades for telephony application servers, including cluster configuration and failover setup.
• Monitor server health, system logs, uptime, and resolve hardware or software issues affecting call processing.
• Manage virtualized telephony servers using VMware and UCS, including provisioning, snapshots, and resource pools.
• Administer Cisco UCS infrastructure within Intersight Managed Mode, maintaining server profiles, policies, and firmware compliance.
• Develop and automate server provisioning and maintenance tasks using Ansible playbooks.
• Coordinate hardware and firmware maintenance, including vendor communication, upgrades, replacements, and end-of-life planning.
• Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures, including testing restore processes to ensure telephony system resilience.
• Document server architecture, build standards, and routine maintenance procedures.
• Provide root cause analysis and escalation support for server-related incidents impacting telephony services.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Cisco CUCM, Cisco Unity Connection, and IM & Presence servers.
• Proficiency with Cisco UCS server hardware and VMware virtualization for telephony workloads.
• Experience managing Cisco UCS infrastructure via Cisco Intersight, including IMM for server profile configuration, firmware management, and policy-based provisioning.
• Knowledge of server OS administration, particularly Linux-based appliances for Cisco UC applications.
• Strong understanding of telephony protocols such as SIP, H.323, MGoogle Cloud Platform, and SCCP.
• Familiarity with Cisco Unified Serviceability, RTMT, and DRS tools.
• Experience with clustering, redundancy, failover design, and high-availability telephony environments.
• Knowledge of storage, backup, and disaster recovery concepts related to telephony servers.
• Skills in scripting and automation (Ansible, PowerShell, Python) for server management and configuration.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills, with ability to perform root cause analysis for server-related issues.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical teams.
• Preferably holds Cisco certifications (CCNP Collaboration or equivalent), VMware certification, Cisco Intersight/UCS certification, or ITIL familiarity.

Publishing Pay Range: $60.00 - $70.00 USD Hourly
