Job Description

Onsite / Construction Site Presence Required

Who are we?

XNRGY Climate Systems is a North American leader in sustainable design and advanced manufacturing of custom air handling and liquid cooling systems. With decades of HVAC engineering and manufacturing expertise, XNRGY delivers innovative, energy-efficient solutions for mission-critical industries including hyperscale and modular data centers, healthcare, life sciences, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing.

Opportunity

We are excited to continue expanding our Service organization as XNRGY supports some of the world’s largest hyperscale data center projects. As part of this growth, XNRGY is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Mission Critical Data Center Programs (HVAC) to lead onsite execution of complex HVAC service and construction programs.

This role serves as the on-site face of XNRGY for customers, General Contractors (GCs), and mechanical and electrical trade partners on mission-critical data center projects. The Project Manager owns execution across both air-side equipment—including CRAC/CRAH units, air handling units, and economizers—and chiller/water-side plant equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, and piping.

The Project Manager will lead execution from rework and start-up through commissioning, warranty, and field support, while coordinating building management and controls integration and supporting the uptime-critical requirements of Tier III/IV data center environments.

Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for driving safe, disciplined execution of highly technical HVAC mechanical programs in active mission-critical construction environments.

Working across internal teams, mechanical contractors, controls integrators, GCs, commissioning agents, OEM technicians, and data center operators, this position coordinates equipment start-up, Level 3–5 commissioning, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and ongoing field support.

The Project Manager will also oversee Superintendents and other onsite staff, represent XNRGY at GC and project meetings, manage project risks and dependencies, and serve as the primary escalation point for HVAC scope, schedule, and change management.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Project Manager with a strong technical understanding of both air-side and chiller/water-side mechanical systems and the ability to lead execution in high-stakes, uptime-critical environments.

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record managing complex HVAC mechanical programs and be comfortable working directly with customers, GCs, mechanical and electrical trades, controls integrators, commissioning agents, and onsite technical teams.

This individual should understand mechanical drawings, sequences of operation, HVAC controls/BMS integration, construction schedules, and commissioning requirements while demonstrating the leadership and communication skills necessary to represent XNRGY onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply project methodologies to drive scalable, repeatable, and cost-effective execution across mission-critical HVAC mechanical programs.

  • Lead cross-functional internal and external teams—including mechanical contractors, controls integrators, GCs, and commissioning agents—across rework, start-up, commissioning, warranty, and field support.

  • Lead execution across both air-side equipment and chiller/water-side HVAC systems.

  • Coordinate Level 3–5 commissioning, including equipment start-up, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing (IST).

  • Coordinate OEM technicians and commissioning agents to validate cooling capacity and redundancy design.

  • Track project progress, risks, and interdependencies related to mechanical equipment delivery, refrigerant piping, ductwork, and controls sequencing against data center construction schedules.

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety requirements including LOTO, confined space, and hot work, particularly when operating in live or near-live data halls.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point and strategic liaison with General Contractors, mechanical engineers, and data center operators on HVAC scope, schedule, and change management.

  • Oversee Superintendents and other onsite staff.

  • Represent XNRGY at all GC and project meetings.

  • Maintain regular construction-site presence throughout project execution.

Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in HVAC service operations or project management, ideally within mission-critical or data center environments.

  • Proven track record managing complex, highly technical HVAC mechanical programs across both:

    • Air-side systems: CRAC/CRAH units, air handlers, precision cooling, and VRF.

    • Chiller/water-side systems: chillers, cooling towers, condenser water and chilled water piping.

  • Direct experience with mission-critical infrastructure—including data centers, hyperscale, colocation, or other uptime-sensitive facilities—strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical drawings and sequences of operation.

  • Working knowledge of BMS/controls platforms and protocols such as BACnet, Niagara, and Modbus as they relate to HVAC systems.

  • Experience with ERP/CRM systems, service management platforms, and performance dashboards.

  • Mechanical or HVAC engineering background preferred; candidates with strong operational, business, or technical program management experience specifically within HVAC will also be considered.

Performance and Personal Competencies

Execution Excellence: Strong planning and program structuring skills with disciplined follow-through managing complex HVAC field operations at scale in high-stakes, uptime-critical settings.

Customer-Centric Mindset: Balances empathy with sound business judgment while proactively supporting data center client cooling and reliability needs.

Communication: Builds trust through clear, professional interaction with GCs, mechanical contractors, customers, and internal teams across all levels of the organization.

Adaptability: Operates with composure under the tight and shifting priorities typical of mission-critical HVAC construction and commissioning environments without compromising execution or safety standards.
