Digital Workplace Strategy Lead

£700 per day inside ir35

6-Month Rolling Contract

Reading (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Digital Workplace Strategy Lead to shape and deliver an enterprise-wide Digital Employee Experience (DEX) strategy within a complex, highly regulated environment.

This is a strategic leadership role focused on defining how technology, people, processes and support services come together to create a secure, productive and engaging digital workplace.

Working closely with Digital, HR, Security, Communications and senior business stakeholders, you'll assess the current employee experience, define a future-state operating model and develop a prioritised roadmap that supports business growth, operational excellence and technology transformation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has led large-scale digital workplace or Microsoft 365 transformation programmes and enjoys influencing strategy at an enterprise level.

Key Responsibilities

As the Digital Workplace Strategy Lead, you will:

  • Develop and own the enterprise Digital Employee Experience strategy.
  • Assess the current employee experience across the full employee life cycle, including Joiners, Movers and Leavers (JML), collaboration, productivity and learning.
  • Review and assess existing digital workplace platforms including Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, ServiceNow, Power Platform, SAP and Identity & Access Management.
  • Identify opportunities to improve employee productivity, collaboration, engagement and service quality.
  • Benchmark the organisation against recognised Digital Employee Experience frameworks and industry best practice.
  • Define the target operating model, governance framework and strategic vision for the digital workplace.
  • Develop future-state service ownership, experience architecture and business capability models.
  • Produce a prioritised transformation roadmap covering short, medium and long-term initiatives.
  • Establish measurable success criteria and a continuous improvement framework.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across IT, HR, Security, Communications and business functions to secure alignment and drive strategic change.

  • Pain point analysis
  • Platform and service assessment
  • Digital maturity benchmarking
  • Enterprise Digital Employee Experience Strategy
  • Future-State Operating Model and Governance Framework
  • Service Ownership and Experience Architecture
  • Prioritised Transformation Roadmap covering:
  • 0-6 month quick wins
  • 6-18 month initiatives
  • 18-36 month strategic investments
  • Resource and capability recommendations
  • Success measures and continuous improvement framework

Essential Experience

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience developing and delivering enterprise-wide Digital Workplace or Digital Employee Experience strategies.
  • Experience leading digital workplace transformation programmes within large, complex organisations.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 technologies including Teams, SharePoint and the wider Modern Workplace ecosystem.
  • Experience with IT Service Management platforms such as ServiceNow.
  • Strong understanding of Power Platform and workplace automation technologies.
  • Experience establishing governance models, operating models and strategic technology roadmaps.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives across Digital, HR, Security, Service Management and wider business functions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with experience influencing senior leadership.
  • Strong understanding of employee-centric design principles and digital adoption.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within defence, government or other highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of Identity & Access Management solutions.
  • Experience with SAP environments.
  • Familiarity with Digital Employee Experience (DEX) measurement frameworks and maturity models.
  • Experience driving adoption of AI-enabled workplace technologies and self-service capabilities.
